    Melb - Suggested day trips / Sunday drives with walks.

    Im determined to drag my household kicking and screaming into an active lifestyle, even if it kills them first

    Catherine is happy watching TV, Connor is happy playing computer, Caitlin who's 4 informs me she doesn't like walking and Meg who's 18 months i'm sure would tell me something similar if she could form a sentence.

    Last year it was bike rides which worked well but with 2 little ones now this isn't achieved easily any more.

    Now this is where the prerequisites start and it all gets a bit tricky-

    There needs to be a walk at the destination, which is either pusher friendly or short enough that i can carry Meg.

    There needs to be a purpose to the walk ie: view, waterfall, tree etc.

    The walk needs to be isolated enough that i can take puppy along 9 weeks old, as she hasn't had her final booster shots it cant be where other dogs often walk.

    We have done Steavenson Falls nears Marysville and the Ada tree (which Angus suggested) and they have been great.

    Also a bit of light 4x4 is a bonus for me

    werribee gorge (lerderderg state park)

    you will get your bit of 4x4 action and plenty of swimming holes along the river...

    a fair drive from the Eastern side of town though...

    There's a waterfall at the Northern end of Mt Disappointment SF - a short walk, but a walk none the less.

    Some nice rainforesty type stuff near Healesville - I think it's Mt Margaret, but I'll have to check. The walking trail wanders through some really pretty forest. No major landmarks, but lots of birds and bugs. Then you can pull back to Healesville for something hot. There's a lookout if you walk the other way. I'll track down the details for you.

    Yep this looks like a go'er i've never been out that way before! What do you recommend?

    Trust me you wouldn't want to do that

    Because i bet you're thinking a nice quiet walk through the forest would be pleasant .... when in reality it would be similar to stroll straight through hell (except hell would be probably quieter and not include "my feet hurt" "can you carry me?" "are we there yet?" "he looked at me" "im hungry" etc

    I really do love my kids, they generally are really quite nice ...... when asleep

    I've walked most of the tracks around there and the distances are not too bad for kids (depends on your kids I guess!)...

    the track leading to the tunnel and the old mine sluice is interesting - ate a few freshwater crays there one year, damn tasty!! (protected species now)...

    Back a few years ago we went to Melbourne for Debs Bros wedding.
    Deb dropped Lindsay and I off for a ride on PuffingBilly.She met us at GemBrook lots of nice parks etc.
    The Dandenongs were great,but spent alot of the day in nursuries,Tasslarrs is awesome when its Tulip time
    Mornington peninsular was nice.
    Ocean RD lots of top spots along the coast.

    Yeah plenty of walks on the Peninsula, bush rangers bay, cape shank, quarantine station, greens bush, beach walks, etc... only an hour away from Boronia to.
