Electrical faults are as common on jeeps as oil leaks are on Landrovers.

Our grand had a short in the power windows, and several other electrical faults which could have been serious, including a fusable link which ran along the fuel line.

Ours also had dual batteries which didnt help things as the second battery sat next to a fuel filter which when you changed it would drop fuel all over the battery and pool on the battery tray.

obviously Jeep hasnt learnt anything in 10 years since our model was going up in flames.

It's similar to fords disaster with the explorer.

I was unfortunate enough to see this sorry excuse for journalism and it continues to amaze me that people believe the cr@p TT churns out. This was a sad attempt at beating up a story about Jeeps being death-trap infernos based on a single impressive grab of footage. It pays to notice that the expert they interviewed did not confirm that there was actually a recurring problem with the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Based on the one instance shown he could quite rightly only say that there "may" be a problem. As much as TT tried they just couldn't seem to make a case. The only thing that was in any way interesting was the fact that Jeep were in the habit of telling customers to withdraw complaints if they wanted their cars fixed.

Only saw the ad for the programme. Didn't they call it one of Australia's best selling cars? A Jeep?

On the add I believe they did.

I dont watch the show mainly because they are more anti 4wd than the greenies and It makes me feel like throwing something throught the TV every time I see it.

As far as Jeeps go, Ive only owned 2 jeeps and the first XJ was great and still going and in the family but the second ZG was a lemon.

On ausjeep off road forum, there has been stories in the past about WG Grand Cherokee's catching fire on beach runs and for no apparent reason as well as breaking subframes towing 400kg trailers.

They are not a very good car some of the time but then again some people get a really good run out of them, My old bosses ran jeeps for the last 10 years or more other than a 3 year stint with F250s which were expensive pains in the proverbial.

They had a few problems but not 1 caught fire. An engine block developed a crack at the oil pump, a couple of trans failures and that was about it.
