Alice Springs.
I just watched a show on the tube, not the best show Today Tonight.
It was about the crime rate in Alice Springs and it shocked me what they had to say. If true it should be a national disgrace and the brains trust in Canberra should be doing something about it.
I had Alice as the first long 4x4 trip that I would do to checkout one of Australia's greatest land marks the Rock. Even if not with the Disco I would have done it on the train the Gahn I think they call it.
But now I would have to put Alice Springs at the bottom of my list of places to visit. If it is that bad we need to change laws and build bigger jails.
Is there anyone on the forum from Alice who can shed some real input about the problems there and if it is as bad as the show portrayed or not.

I didnt see it- I was watching the history of Land rover Redback posted- but I went to a conference there a few years back and one my workmates brother in law was the Sargeant there.
He said they usually went around on Friday arvo and into the evening collecting the "locals" and locking them up as they would be doing it over the weekend anyway.
They then let them out on Monday only to do it all again on Friday.
He was built like a Gorilla and needed to be, as it was all hard yakka.

The Alice is no worse or no better than a lot of other places outback that have problems with disadvantage, poverty and alcoholism.
The program was a typical 'current affairs' beat up.
Bourke (NSW) is a gazillion times worse, yet no one seems shy of passing through.
Even worse is Macquarie Fields.... where is the beat up article about 'Don't drive to Campbelltown' ??
The whole thing was a routine ACA / TDT / Insert name of 'current affairs' show beat up by a bunch of bigoted metrosexual latte sipping Paddington yuppies whose idea of 'outback' is the dunny at their favourite Hunter Valley cellar door whilst their Saab is parked out front.

i went to Alice last year and thought it was a lovley place . Meet some nice people there . I will and can't wait to go back. Misses loved the place too. One of our top towns in Aus
And BTW has the best curry house in Aus too. Do a stonking Chicken Dansak, when most aus curry houses don't even know what that is.
BUT
It does annoy me whne you get back to sydney or brisbane and you get these people who say how bad the Aboriginals are treated and that Aus gives them nothing and treats them so bad
I often say go to Alice springs and then come back and say that. My sis in law works for immagration in Sydney and she goes on about the poor abo's and the last time i nearly bought her a plane ticket to Alice to go and see the real aus
But i would not let all these stories let you not go and see a real nice Aussie town

Hmmm. must be right - places like Baghdad are a holiday park by comparison.......... apparently there is liitle violence and no murders there by comparison to the Alice.did you watch the program?
