Question Service Plan for Disco Series2 TD5

I recently bought a Series 2 TD5 Disco. I have been quoted $850 for its 80,000k service. I would like to know what would constitute such a service for the dealer to ask that much. The service portfolio includes a table "Service Interval Plan", service type 3.7 for 80,000. Can anyone enlighten me as to what should be looked at/done in an 80,000k service. I have tried without success to get a hold of a document that I could use for this, and services going forward.

As far as i know it's a complete fluid change front and back diffs, transfer case and gearbox, engine, ABS modulator flush, brake and clutch fluid change, radiator flush and refill, the cost of that in fluid would be around $300 using their pricing of parts.

Then a complete systems check i would say, brakes pads, electrics and so on

Then labour at $95 to $120 an hour, probably come close but that's from a dealer, if you go to a mechanic but still and Landy specialist then you could take maybe 1/3 off that $850.

Or do it yourself for 1/3 of the price

I think from memory the dealer 80k service on my 97 TDi was about this. And this was 5 years ago.

When I quizzed mates with the Jap 4wds they said their services were around this figure.

    Cheaper to go else where.

The 80k service does not include coolant, this is done on the 60k, 120k & 180k etc services.
The service also includes remote batteries (2), air filter, fuel filter.
I think on this site there is a service schedule somewhere. Theres lots of info & so many places to look.

as questioned above where are you? If in sydney go to a LR specialist that isnt a dealer, Graeme Cooper and KLR are two that spring to mind. There are also a few in melbourne and brisbane. Failing that find out what needs doing, buy the oil in bulk and do the oil changes yourself. I bought enought oil to do 3 engine oil changes, 3 diff and transfer case changes and about 4 or 5 gearbox changes in 3 different 20 oil drums for about $300 bucks but that is a 300 Tdi, even if you add a hundred bucks you are still a hunk of cash in front because for the same dollars you have enough to serice the car several times over. Do all the oils yourself and then have the dealer do the diagnostic stuff that you cant do.

Filters and oils are easy to change, shouldnt take you more than a couple of hours to go over the whole car. Matt
