In the past have shot cats the size of dogs (biggest about size of a Staffy). Vicious buggers too. But was not black, nor a Panther. Every state has big cat stories. Amazing how no one can ever shoot, trap or photograph them.![]()
I believe in the simple explanation that a few examples of big cats from various sources (zoo's, illegal pets etc.) have gotten introduced over the years. A big cat lives for over a decade in the wild and would have plentifull food. As for that Rex nutbag I think he better not be getting a goverment grant from my tax money. There were species such as he describes for example a land dwelling giant croc and a meat eating kangaroo in existence on this continent 10,000 plus years ago that died out with the other species of mega fauna. But to postulate them as currently living species is ridiculous. I have heard reports of sightings of both the big cats and thaylacine from reliable, reputable, professional people. I chose to believe them.

theres been photos and video on two tv shows i have seen
if they can tell from fossilised remains what an animal ate and how it bred, then some johnny should be able to say from a recent kill, paw print or fresh dropping its a bloody panther.
No expert has ever done so, no ametuer has ever captured anything on film and no red neck has ever shot it.
No greenie hippie returning to mother nature protecting our old tree growth forest has ever saved one
So its still
Myth Myth Myth
The panther story gets a run methinks when the Lithgow rag needs some space to fill..
There is a website around, I can't find it at the moment, catalogging(?) all the evidence. It debunks the various US army & zoo stories.
I wouldn't bother with this one at all, except someone I know & respect on another forum says he's seen it. He showed me the spot at Mt Walker where it crossed in front of him one trip. A track we all use up on one of the ridges.
So I dunno..

excerpt from above
The Proof
A database has been compiled by private citizens recording 100 sightings of the animal, reports of deep scratch marks on trees and examples of farm animals found gutted. Hard evidence of the existence of big cats in the lower Blue Mountains of NSW includes:
- Dr Hart, a veterinarian from the Rural Lands Board, who believes that scat samples are evidence of a large cat - "it wasn't a feral cat, fox or dog scat". He also stated "the most likely explanation of the evidence listed "is the presence of a large feline predator in this area, most likely a leopard".
- A secured deer carcass three metres above ground was predated by "an unknown animal capable of climbing a tree and holding on with claws, there were significant claw marks".
- The hindquarters of a sheep that had damage consistent with the claws of a large cat.
- Dr Johannes Bauer, who has wide experience in large cat surveys overseas, concluded "difficult as it seems to accept, the most likely explanation of the evidence is the presence of a large feline predator".
- A scientist working on contract for NPWS collected plaster prints in the Bilpin area which "appeared to be made by a large cat".
- A domestic cat killed at Grose Vale by something that crushed its thorax and then leapt about three metres onto the roof of the house.
The unknown animal left more than 50 prints which were "cat-like in form and leopard-sized with no evidence of nail marks associated with the prints. This excludes the possibility that these prints were made by a dog."
- Big cat sightings by residents who previously lived in South Africa and were familiar with large cats, or by residents who have worked as large cat handlers in zoos.
- In just the last seven years, collected sighting reports number more than 100, with another 170 instances of scat samples/tree scratches and predation reports.
It's clear from the evidence collected above by local people and government employees that there is a big cat(s) operating in the lower Blue Mountains area.
But big cats aren't just living and hunting in NSW. A study carried out by Deakin University in Victoria also found indisputable evidence of big cat activity in the mountainous Grampians region. The study concluded "the data collected by the Deakin group support a level of credibility for the proposition that a big cat population is established in the Grampians of south-west Victoria that is beyond reasonable doubt".
Thats it
I've read it on the internet therefore it must be true![]()
This is a job for ACE! (The Sultan) and his buddies and school students - hey ACE, this would make for a great school project, and has scientific merit, when you find the cat!
And a question for Penrith historians: Penrith was a little town on the far fringe of Sydney and its rugby team is the Panthers - any correlation here?
Cheers, GQ
