i have never carried the spare tyre on the defender since i brought it while driving around town. this is because it sits on the bonnet and Megs hates it
well guess what, picked up a nail on the way to work this morning, jumped out of the rig and heard a hissing noise, now she is sitting in the carpark with a jack under her, good thing work had a ute sitting around to drop the tyre off to a repairer.
what a good way to start the day

A string repair kit is a good thing to have in the car. Nearly all punctures around town are nails/screws etc. A string kit fixes em up in a minute.
You of course have to have a pump, or you can have a number of CO2 bottles and the little doover which screws onto the valve.
I had about 5 punctures in my motorcycle tyres over a couple of years , and string was the go every time. Bloody nails get flipped into the centre of the lane you see.

i have a repair kit and an onboard compressor, but as i was dressed for work and it was lightly raining i opted for the tyre shop
funny you should say that, i changed a tyre just for kicks on an ARMY 110 the other weekend just to remind me of the effort involved, the guys thought i was crazy not waiting till we got back to the workshop to use the tyre changing gear, talk about poofs
you called darling
how this i just picked the tyre up from the repaurer and it stil had the piece of stell hanging out of it, the repairer said he didnt check and only pulled the other half of the steel out from the inside, carn't get good help anywhere
yesterday driving to work waiting at the traffic lights to turn right green arrow to come on looked at the road in front and what did l spy a red handle screw driver. I did the right thing and went and picked it up, saved some bastard from getting a puncture and added to my tool box. That's win win in my book
