6 Months in Sharksbay, and I dont like fishing!!!

Just about to spend the rest of the year in Denham (sharks bay) , got a great job to set the town up for the instalation of a new RO unit. Good coin + full TA + overtime + standby rates + 10 on 4 off. Heres the down side, away from wife and kids, fishing dont float my boat and the hire ute is a MUSSO twincab 4x4 sports.
They have sujested that if the musso lasts untill late july I may have one of the new v8 crusers.

Hello Sly just came back 2 weeks ago no fish and bloody windy.
Most places wanted to take my money lots of it. I was not happy, also cracked my diff housing up on peron peninsula metal fatigue, servo ran out of auto gas on sat no more till thursday, most cafes, takeaway places were closed at 6.30PM, but as a tourist was not impressed as a local it may be different, by the way whats a RO?
hope it all works out for you

Giday Brad I know how you feel, the locals arenot renown for their friendly welcome, good service or value for money. Went up on monday to scope out the job in the only avalable ute a bench seat workmate hilux, it only had one brand of fule card so I ran out of fule 40 odd kms short of town, no probs I had some on the back but could not get it from the jerry into the filler, wallked up and down the road in the dark serching for long neck drink bottles ( Nat park = clean verges ) , used the hilux basic tool kit for some radical mods to the fule filler and constructed a multi bottle funnel to dribble the fule in, Fule in and away we go into the night and the first roo folds the ally bar back over the bonnet !!!!
Tired and a little cranky arive at the foreshore and find a room among the throng of screaming backpackers, head down to the old pub for 3 beers and a feed, no one said a word to me (very chatty mob are old fishoes).
RO stands for reverse ossmosis (not spelt right) and I dare say I wont bee any more popular with the locals when the water goes of and on over the next few months. But the cash is good and I still get to go of to the bush and arownd the back of Mt Agustus in a couple weeks time. Going to try north from the Murch river and up the Muggon track, know of anyone traveld that way befor ??

Muggon track..cant say I have but ask same question on lrocwa site see what u get.
I am sure that someone from the club has done it sometime.

    Reverse osmosis sounds good.
Once u are accepted by the locals u will fit in...lol. not having family is not good, but only a ph call away.
I like denham but just had a bad time this time. the caltex sevo are new owners only been there 6 weeks, wasnt there fault that the gas supplier would not del gas until following thursday. The cafe / restraunt had a wonderful meal, also new owners. The other cafe is up for sale did not open on sat when I was there, why? on thursday only take away was fish and chips ..no burgers as the bakery did not make enough why?.. Maybe school holidays was too much for the town.
I paid $1200 for the week at the house opposite the fish cleaning area on the front it says short term acc has a picket fence around it and there is a house at the back. This is owned by the people who run the mitre 10 store and is used by the caravan park for overloads when the park is full.
The caravan pk people got 300 out of our 1200 just for a ph call. it sleeps 7 but has only chairs inside for 4 there is a table outside but no light, there was no washing machine , the toilet did not flush properly. the microwave stopped after 15 mins use, the bbq did not work and was out of gas, all this for $1200. as U can se I was not impressed.
Anyway I like the place and just had a bad time this time. hope you find it better
good luck with it all and your upcoming trip

Bugger the locals if they are not hospitable. Give it to em every chance. I did not mind Denham / Monkey Mia area but have not been there for a while. Its a wonder your wife and kids are not up there with you.
Just forget to run the reverse osmosis plant if they annoy you and give em all salt water.

I only ever overnight in Denham/Monkey Mia due to the comments here.
We camp out on Peron station for a week at a time and come in to fill up and sleep in a bed before the long drive.
The last time we went to Monkey Mia the Rangers told us to stand to the back of the dolphin touching so the Jap Tourists could have a go. "This was because apparently we were Aussies and could come back anytime" Yeah right $20 to get into Monkey Mia and a 200 mile round trip!!
As a rip off destination it is only second to Uluru.

    Got to agree.
Tell the Rangers to $%^k off as you have more right than the Japnese tourists as you contribute to the economy here long term and pay their salary. That sort of treatment makes my blood boil.

Geez, a couple of years earlier and you would have seen me there, except I was always getting p^ss#d and sleeping on the jetty while the others fished. We went there every year and stayed for free. I haven't been back since they started charging people for the pleasure.
