Yeah - know how you feel. It's getting bloody ridiculous in Perth lately with the number of home invasions etc. Cops should take a leaf out of the Victorians books - shoot first & ask questions later. The p*ss weak courts won't do anything about it.
I see on tonight's news that the cops shot one in the leg tonight - lousy shot - should have been between the eyes.
    Cheers .........

Yeah, and now the poor copper is being investigated. No wonder no one wants to do the job. Stupid yobbo in his ute on parole, p$%%ed and on drugs. But he will be back on the street quickly. Look at those girls that killed their friend in Collie. They got life, 15years, since when is life 15 years. They will be out by the time they are 31-32. Life should be life until you die. Then the guy that defended himself in his Pizza parlour was investigated by worksafe for endangering his staff?? How stupid is this country becoming. Shopkeepers should be allowed to keep a shotty under the counter and shoot these p%$&ks as should coppers.

The heirarchy that run the laws in this country are too weak and scared of losing their perceived standing in society that they are cowtowing to the "do Gooders" and accepting that the perpetrators are the victims.................

My sympathy for you Richard, those sort of acts make me angry, the people who did it are absolute losers

its all sounding very much like the UK but i wont go there....

your right... the do-gooders are the big issue here.. they have a short term vision of peace and all being good... unfortunately that only works so far.. and after that you have the kids etc from that era... the ones with no respect, no morals, and no brains! and then the country goes to sh*t... love them or hate them thats why a lot of the brits are coming over here... its why i did...

i just hope Australia has the balls to stand up to the do-gooders and tell them where to go... be a shame if they didnt.. bloody fantastic country would go to waste....

    just my 2 cents worth

Well if you look at America and especially those states that have a 3 crimes and your permanently locked up as habitual criminal the only thing you will see is over crowded prisons, hue tax cost to the honest citizen and no reduction in crime proportionate to the heavy sentences given.

If you look at British 17th and 18th law which had 300 offences punishable by hanging and included deportation to Oz, wasn't a big crime deterrent either.

So l don't think prison is the answer,

But l do think the cane and birch is worth a go as opposed to community sentence orders, l think a 100 cane sentence for minor offences is and would be a good deterrent and if not a deterrent a good punishment for the crime.

Personally l think until society determines what it wants to achieve with its criminals, reform or punishment we won't sort the problem out, personally l think reform is crap and we should just punish punish punish

    Sorry Cartm58,
But the risk of being hung or othere severe penalties would sure as hell put me off. Just look at Singapore. Most of these figures about disproportionate convictions not stopping crime forget to take into account population growth where everything including crime grows.
Removal of civil rights is one answer, but also making criminals face their victims and meaningful restitution is the other part that needs to go hand in hand. I can tell you for sure if as in the case of the young girl in Collie it was my daughter those 2 slime and that is what they are would not ever do it again.
Get out and talk to some of these kids, even my generation. They do not care because there are no real consequences. They will be looked on as unfortuanate and given all the aid they need that hard working honest people can not get.
Cut their hands off for repeated stealing and then send them to New Zealand to live as punishment.

Same as 5teve - I was hoping to get away from weak justice - it's not as bad here as in the UK. Yet. It's only recently that the Govt has started to tackle the problem that is criminals have more rights than victims.

Case in point: If someone breaks into your house to rob the place and in the process for example falls down the stairs because a loose carpet they burglar can sue you for injuries. The fact that they broke in to commit crime doesn't matter.
