Taswegian politics has been on the nose for very long time. I thought Jim Bacon (the former premier) may have sorted it, but he was killed off, in favour of the self embalming Lennon. We were discussing Tassie earlier today, given that Gunns is yet again up to no good on other matters, but trying to get any info from Gunns or the perpertually inebriated Premier is impossible.

In NSW, the State occasionally fires local Councils for incompetence, but
removing a pickled Premier from Taswegia seems perplexing to our Federal toadies.

Lennon came up with some completely unelievable crap about a pulp mill on the Tamar in the past week, ignoring locals, in favour of Gunns....

Visit Tassie while you can, before the place is levelled...

here here GQ. Its ****ing disturbing isnt it. One of our most pristine states, at the mercy of the worst in politics and corporate bull****. Maybe we need some more good old fashioned tree huggers out there, living in the trees! I'll be up fo that when i get back.

I won't comment too much because of some knowledge about the whole thing.

I do agree that Tasmanian politics is a lot on the nose, and I will be voting for a change next ellection.

Howver the softwood contract was contested in a commercial enviroment, and lost to a better bid. Auspine was sitting on it's hands with it's thumbs up it's **** expecting to get it again. and low and behold, they didn't. So they are going to have to shut plants. But the workers are blaming those who awarded the contract, not those who lost it. go figure.

Guns buying auspine is defenitely on the nose though. yet another monopoly for tasmania after the monopoly across a small stretch of water called bass strait by the shipping companies.

Phoenix, Whilst I am ignorant of ALL of the circumstances surrounding the awarding of the contract, I have to make this statement!

When tendering for a contract in Tas Government circles you USUALLY have to have a demonstrated capacity to fulfill the ogligations of the scope of work.

My understanding was that the sucessfull proponent DID NOT have the capacity to mill the timber and produce a saleable product.

Dear All,

Its a shame we all choose to make comments when we do not know the facts.

I do not have an interest in either party (Gunns or Government) but I would choose to think that in this day an age most Government decisions are subgect to investigation and review.

I think to many people here are jumping to conclusions witout knowing the facts.

I am sure it will all come out in the wash. Speaking of what "The Bastard Boys" on ABC has been good viewing.

Ok, this is the part where i have to be carefull about what I am allowed to say, because the council for which my wife works is involved in are processing an application by that company to spend a lot of money on a very new and smick plant to do that processing. far more advanced than what auspine does, and using only 1/3 of the labour.

Phoenix, a 'development application' or development proposal' to council is a publicly available document (or it should be), so dont worry...
