I don't think they go for pollies anymore, Fen.

Left that category to the 7.30 report and Lateline, bit too serious for the lightweights running these pieces of crap - but I know someone who believes everything Ray or Tracey say - sad.......

    Otherwise you're bang on, mate.

As someone else has mentioned, it appears that the TV show in question was "baiting" truck drivers by deliberately driving slowly in the far right lane (or overtaking lane) then watching to see what happens.

The camera vehicle should never have been sitting in the right hand lane with a clear lane to its left (I am assuming it was clear, there is no reason for the truck to change lanes into a full lane to get past the slower vehicle).

Hopefully charges of driving without due care, etc, will be brought against the driver of the camera vehicle.

I'm not a truck driver but im surprised that the truck driver didn't see the Merc[/QUOTE]

I've been driving trucks on & off for years - and it's no surprise at all that the truck driver didn't see the merc. The merc driver changed lanes straight into the worst blind spot that you could pick with a truck of that design - but you can't blame the merc driver for that - most people just don't know.

As others have said, the prang between the truck and the merc was simply an accident - neither was really any more in the wrong than the other - it was simply bad luck that they both chose to move into the same lane at roughly the same time - the truck driver's blind spot in that area didn't help.

What ACA failed to mention on this latest show which was very clearly stated on the original piece, was that the woman driving the 4wd with the camera on board was travelling "below the speed limit". In fact, on this week's show, there was no comment from the woman driving this vehicle on her speed - one of the ACA reporters stated that she was travelling at the speed limit of 80kph, completely contradicting the woman's own statement on the original show.

As far as I can see, the cause of this accident lay completely with this stupid b*tch in the 4wd travelling at below the speed limit and refusing to move out of the right lane (no doubt egged on by the idiots from ACA). She stated on numerous occasions that she was sh*t scared by the truck behind her - for f*ck's sake - he wasn't even close. She also stated that she could not change lanes herself, as there was too much traffic in the lane to her left. Watching the entire footage, I saw at least two or three occasions on which she could have easily and safely moved to the centre lane, including into the rather large gap that both the truck and the merc attempted to move into unfortunately at the same time. If the stupid b*tch in the 4wd had changed lanes rather than performing for the cameras, tha accident would never have occurred.

I read on another forum that this was the fault of "another footy mum driving a big 4wd in the city". Wouldn't matter what she was driving - she's a bloody idiot and should not be allowed out on the road.

Another interesting point - after the accident, did the woman in the 4wd with the ACA cameraman stop to render any assistance to the driver of the merc or see of he / she was OK. No - she just kept on driving and left them to their own devices. Should have been charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
    Cheers .........

ACA did, in fact, play a much longer piece of footage which showed that the camera car WAS overtaking traffic in the centre lane. Whether they were travelling at or below the speed limit is irrelevant - they were definitely travelling faster than the other two lanes. The footage was run from some distance before they enetered the tunnel - what they were doing 1 or 2 km further up the road is not mentioned.

Whilst I agree that they were spoiling for some action, I don't think they had any direct involvement in this accident. Simply travelling below the speed limit and p**sing off drivers behind is not breaking any law. And on any stretch of road where the speed limit is less than 90km/h even sitting in the righthand lane is not an offence.

On the matter of blinkers, I liked the comment I read somewhere recently. I think it was someone's signature on a UK LR forum.

I'm glad I noticed you were changing lanes. It gave me prior warning that you might be about to turn your indicator on.

    Solmanic,

It's an offence to be in the left lane on a road with a limit above 80 in Vic. At best it was inconsiderate driving on her behalf. Much easier for a car/4wd to manouevre than a semi.

who cares if it is not a offence to be in the right lane going 80kmh, any body who has a bit of common-sence see's a huge semi coming up behind should or would move out the way no matter what... it comes down to the old fashioned pecking order its bigger than you and will do 10 times more damage ,so dont test them truckies,,,,,, safer to just get out the way??????????and thats coming from me who has a user name "OUT THE WAY"
