Thread: Shu Roo?

ooh you're playing with fire there.

Some people swear by them, some people swear at them, some people think they are a complete joke.

There has been "extensive tests" done that show they don't work, yet others have said they've seen them work...

To be honest we just don't know and most seem to think there just isn't enough definitive proof that shows they work.

It's really a hotly debated topic as I'm sure you'll see.

However if they work even 1% of the time, that's still a roo that didn't jump out in front of you isn't it?

From what I understand - no personal knowledge you understand - that they are a waste of money.

I did a search on yahoo/google a while back and a AU university study came up in the various material - and it stated that they were 'as useful as a chocolate fire guard' - not their words but my enterpretation.

Bought a set of cheapies (supercheap $10) on the way back from WA and can't tell if they worked as didn't see the smart roo's and the dumb one's got hit. (Cunamulla to St George and about 300 Roo's on the side of the road with their ears twiching. only 2 hit)

Have a mate with the Sho Roo, he has swapped it from one car to another and he too doesn't want to try without and hasn't had a Roo strike with it fitted.

I'd place them in the catagory of FITCH, HICLONE, and ELEC RUST PREVENTION

My advice or reckoning is....

If the stretch of road is 200k
and 100 roos cross it in 24hrs
the faster you travel the 200k
the less chance of hitting one

Hmmm. And yet electric rust prevention DOES work, under certain circumstances - ask any off-shore oil rig.

Having been annoyed no end from hearing a Shu-roo beep and twitter all day before the owner twigged that he had left it on with the car parked, I can vouch for them - I'd leave the area too if given the option. But they aren't real loud, aren't real often, and I doubt they'd be annoying enough to get a roo out of your way in the 5 seconds before you smack into it.

If you want to avoid hitting roos, don't drive at dawn or dusk, keep you speed down and your eyes peeled. Ideally don't drive at night.

With drought roos come to the road - the condensation and runoff means greener grass than elsewhere. Starvation is a stronger instinct than avoiding annoying noises.

I had a set of the whistles for years and never hit a roo. I do a lot of country miles and they seem to hop off the road rather than onto it.

Maybe coincidence but my panel beating bill has been $0.00 since I put them on.

A good bull bar sorts them out though.
