Ken, sounds like you got a good buy, does this mob have an email or web address. Just a point about the 4:1 ratio you are talking about, it is called the Safety Factor (SF) and in this case it is a SF of 4 which of course means the Guaranteed Breaking Strain (GBS) in the case of the shackles is 16 tonne, but SF are used to guide Riggers on what size slings, shackles etc. to use. For Standing rigging, as in guy wires that hold a mast (radio, ship) the SF is 4, for general Purpose use, i.e. lifting, hauling loads the SF is 6, for Elevators or anything that involves lifting people the SF is 10, this of course assumes that the equipment is in perfect working order. My point is never ever use any rigging equipment, shackles, slings, tow ropes, snatch blocks to lift or haul above their SWL, even though you know what the Breaking strain is, it only takes an unseen defect to bring the Breaking strain down , with dangerous consequences, the SF is calculated to take wear and tear into the equation, take care, Regards Frank.

SlingRig are probably the single largest supplier of lifting & rigging gear plus safety harnesses, fall arrest gear etc into the mining industry in WA. The also supply many of the major crane operators.
There was some pretty serious investigation conducted into the safety rating of equipment supplied into these industries by SlingRig and others a few years ago after a few failures (mostly in safety harnesses with shonky stitching etc). SlingRig came out of these investigations pretty well.
While the company I work for does not use SlingRig as our preferred supplier of this type of equipment, I wouldn't have any hesitation myself in purchasing any of their rated and certified gear.
In NSW, two companies that have excellent, rated products are Beaver Industries at Wetherill Pk, http://www.beaver.com.au/companyprofile.htm. Beaver are the suppliers of the Black Rat range of 4WD recovery gear, and
Spanset Industries http://www.spanset.com.au/index.htm at Emu Plains who are webbing manufacturers and make possibly the best slings, snatch straps, toe ropes, ratchet ties in the business.
In an independent test I once read, Spanset came out on top with their snatch straps, etc, and Black Rat weren't far behind and both were well in front of the well known brands.
Perhaps you Gentlemen would do the rest of us a favour,,,
and add those companies to the LINKS Forum,,
Ken, you could even do a REVIEW of those products.
;)
I think you just need to shop there with caution...they were actually quite reasonable for my roof bars and I got a tyre repair kit cheaper than on eBay, but they do seem to take the **** for most stuff, I've found.
If that's where you got your tow "bar", I'd have said that was quite reasonable too?
