    Bow Shackles N Tow Straps

Yesterday I went into Sling Rig and was having a look at Eye bolts for my Bash Bar and found what I was looking for.
Also while I was there I queried about 4.7 Tonne Bow Shackles .The bloke at the counter said yeh mate $5.70 ea thanks I bought 4 of em
At ARB I payed $17.50 for 1 Bow Shackle
Then I asked same bloke at counter How Much for a Tow Strap $39.50 mate I bought one
At ARB same Tow Strap $65.00
I will NEVER shop at ARB AGAIN

Ken, are the shackles you bought "Rated", do they have the Safe Working Load (SWL) or Working Load Limit (WLL) stamped or embossed on the sides, if not they are probably cheap cr#p that you certainly wouldn't trust as far as you can spit, same goes for the Tow Strap, Regards Frank.

Someone has to pay for those big flash 4x4's that park out the front of their stores. My last Defender had an ARB winch bar that was $200 cheaper than ARB wanted. That included fitting which ARB wanted more for.

The last time I went into ARB I was served by a former student of mine who was one of the better ones. He could not even give me any discount at all. As I said, "last time I went"!

    ARB shops

    g'day ken;

A while back I was looking for bow shackles + snacth straps and
found 4wd Megastore competitively priced ,

you mentioned that same tow straps from sling rig sold at ARB for $65.00

are you sure they are exactly same straps ?

Reason for this is that I have bought straps and quality of straps have been different , and where they snatching straps or Tow Straps ?

I believe if this is correct Snatching straps have different strech factors etc and some of them sticthings around the loop is different , some of the cheaper ones I have told the stitching to have come apart.

My brother is a rigger and so has a lot of shackles of varying size. The difference between his and the 4WD shop ones are his are a lot cheaper and not painted bright colors.

Embossed shackles have a SWL on them and they should not break before 5 times load stamped on them.

With an equivalent sized non rated shackle they can break at any load.

Also rated shackles should have a colour coded pin which is related to the carbon content of the steel used.

How much is your life worth? Hopefully more then the couple of bucks difference between a rated and non rated shackle!

    Regards

A few years back I was after a Donaldson Pre-cleaner for the top of the snorkle. ARB wanted about $120 ... got one from Diesel Spares for < $40.
Thieving lot most of those 4WD shops.

If Ken bought them at Sling rig then they are rated. I deal with them a fair bit and they dont sell anything that isnt rated. There a rigging company.

I bought replacement winch cable from them many years ago and it was about a third of the price of any 4wd company

All Bow Shackles I bought have Safe Working Load SWL and are rated WLL Stamped onto the casting And the (Tow Strap) Has its own (Tested Certificate) (Aus Standard)
The (Bow Shackles) have a 4 to 1 ratio so they break at roughly 16 Tonne
The (Tow Strap) has a 4 to 1 ratio also and its a (Sling Strap) 5mtr length its breaking point is 8 Tonne and thats from a dead lift off of the ground .
The Straps,Slings,Trunk Protectors,Snatch Straps,Bow Shackles,Winch Cables, etc That Are sold at Sling Rig are of exceptional quality as they are used extensively in industrial situations.
Next time I need Recovery gear I would definately go back to these guys as not only where they very helpful but there very well priced after all (Saftey First) but when it comes to 4WDing its expensive enough as it is without getting ripped off by overpriced so called specialist shops..
