good to hear.. well done
G'Day Guys, Just got back from a trip home to England, my first since coming over here 6 years ago. Great place to visit but I shant be going back to live. 13 days rain out of a 14 day stay! Anyway took the opportunity to visit the local Landy dealer to look at the new Defender and was dealt with a very knowledgeable helpful and enthusiastic salesman who has his own collection of series and TDI vehicles. After showing me round a 90 hardtop County spec he took me for a drive despite knowing I was from Oz and there was nothing in it for him. Well this thing is incredible, the acceleration actually forces you back in your seat and it pulls like a train. Infact when I had a little whinge about the noise level (yes I did have to shout) he pointed out we were doing nearly 90 (140+ kays) and it was still accelerating. After backing off to a legal 70 the noise was very subdued and it was easy to talk. There were 1400 miles on the clock and he is expecting 30+mpg after running in. The sooner we get this over here the better cos I want one!!!!!! Lets hope LR bring in a decent model range. Incidentally the really good news is that Defender will run until at least 2013. Another interesting fact for those who think the engine is too small, one was hitched up to a 30 ton truck and it pulled it away. When the truck brake was applied the Landy would not stall, the wheels just kept on turning so it should be pretty good in sand. Cheers Steve

G'day Landymanv8
I bet that we don't get the 90as they can't get it plate (ADR'd in Aust for the rear seats)
if you wanted one private import would be the way to go.
cheers
Ahh, but the rear seats in the new 90 are 2 fowards facing, full height seats![]()

I thought the whole point was that the new 07 models only featured fullsize forward facing seats in the rear - hence why the 110 is now a 7 seater not 9 - or even 10 in the UK, and the 90 only seats 4 (not 6 - or 7 in the old UK model).
Still, there are probably other reasons why they stopped bringing it in. The 'enthusiast' nature of the model never tarnslated into viable sales volumes according to my dealer.
Nissan stopped bringing in the Skyline moons ago, but that didn't stop gazillions of them getting to Australia.....or for that matter the Mitsu 4wd Delica MPVSUV whatever, or the Lucida (Tarago diesel), etc etc etc.....
(love those heated vibrating seats [Pedro would like them] and electric curtains)
Maybe the 'grey' importers would do well with LandRover products that the local distributor has 'issues' with..........

G'day Folks
Aah! but mr ToyNisMit-Awhatzi has the ear of the ADR mancan't slow the prefered traders sales down
and Import duties differ
cheers
Lucky man. I'll be down at the Adelaide dealer when they eventually arrive for my test drive.
So far I've only heard heard positive reports about it, even the "small engine" criticism from most people is forgotten when they actually drive one.
Hi UncleHo,
I think it's a supply issue - Japanese law virtually forces people to turn over their cars every few years. You get a little longer if you buy an export-ready model (Japanese market models don't meet design rules for most of the rest of the world - they are really cheap and design life is a couple of years). So there is a flood of export-ready, usually ADR complianced (because we have the wheel on the correct side for Japan), worthless cars in Japan, and a market for them here.
Compare the UK situation where there are tax breaks for holding onto cars forever, Landies have a hard life, salt all over the place, and hold their value fairly well. There wouldn't be enough market for them.
If someone wanted a Landy via grey importation, why not ask one of the buyers to source one ex Japan? They must come up at auction from time to time - I understand the same rules re length of registration apply to all cars in Japan.
