The Mercedes Sprinters have airbags in the front.
Nothing has them in the back as far as I know.

Hi there
I work within the Mining Industry as an Emergency services Officer - and I know were your comming from there is not alot out there.
We have looked at many different vehicles over the years but we are predominately Land Cruiser (most mines are). We have just taken deleivery of our third ambulance - an Ex SA Ambulance service F-Truck (big V8 Diesel 4x4)
Talking about the Land Cruisers - is there any mines in Australia which don't predominatly run land cruisers.
I personally wouldnt look at the sprinters - they have just as many electronics as the discoverys and good if you have a dealer close by.
Well my views

What about those IVECO vans, look a bit like a Sprinter but heavier 4X4 chassis? One of those camper mobs have got some of them.
These are only suitable as rapid paramedic deployment vehicles not anmbulances. We really need to be able to transport 2 casualties on stretchers and 1 or 2 sit up if required. The biggest problem is finding a vehicle a local (state) builder can easily fit a body to. Prototypes and specials will quadrupple the price.
Currently we have the PC ambo and this is what we were supposed to keep. Also we have a Merc 2wd and an F250 (older model) that are here until the end of construction and belong to St John. As you work for BHP as well, eventually you will be forced to meet FRCP on light vehicles. Nickel West has decided to make it mandatory pretty much now, with the rest of BHP to follow. Feel sorry for KNSC we bought a brand new PC Ambo just before I left there last year. I would say I am leaning towards a F350 if available. You will have to see if you can get on a junket, I mean business trip and come over for a tour when we are fully up and running.
:D
What about a D3 as a Rapid Response vehicle with extrication (single stretcher) capability, and using a helicopter for transports?:o
If the mine has a helicopter, then a slide in/out stretcher configuration could make it into an ambulance in 10-15 min.
