I lent a car to a mate a long time ago and it came home with a ding every panel, amazing it was still was going after a rollover, he was going a bit hard and lost it, in the bush and managed to glance off numerous trees.....upside down....
and - want to be in the poo? brother in law rolled his mums car not so long ago - wonder why?
annoyingly the aging Mitsu (Colt?) thingy was rebuilt.... he should'v'e done a better job!!!

I will only lend (and let drive) my cars to my brother and i know he is the same. Does not mean so much now as i am here and he is in the UK.:)
He is coming over in August and i will give him the choice of taking the 90 or the disco for a trip up to fraser.
After all the 3 weeks i was in the UK last year i was running around in his rally Freelander :D:D
But even then the rules of engagement are
"You Bend It , You Mend It"
Mind you i have done more damage to his cars while in mine anyway. :D:D Mostly off roading.
Last one was when i was stuck in a really big mud hole and we both had soft top landies. (90's) and we decided to snatch and for saftey were doing it while we both had our heads in the foot wells. Just in case the rope went or somthing happened. Well after the 10th time my car came out and i went shotting back and he stopped before me and my 90 ploughed flat out in reverse into the front of his 90. To the amazement of everyone we both got out of the cars ****ing ourselves with laughter
At least it came back without dents or on a back of a tow truck like alot of your stories,the thing is i know how he treats stuff its all with care,its just a slip of his mind but f%#k sake,,,,,,can't you feel it?????? at least one good thing comes out of it he wants to buy a Land Rover now and get rid of his Holden Ute[dam they impractical]
well diffs are been drained and for safe measures did transfer case [no metal shards] yet.

you should be right, if the oil was'nt black and smelly you will O.K.
She'll be right mate, a couple of banana peels will fixit if it gets noisey, and how many mountain sides do you really ever drive on.

If there was no bad juju with the oils, then I reckon he still owes you a whole lot of beer for the oils, the wear on the tyres and the anguish.
You know what they say about lending motorcycles and women. Obviously it applies to 4wds too.
Reminds me of a mates father, he borrowed my mates swb landcruiser and took it to a property to go shooting, coming back he noticed it wasn;t going very well up hills, so he put in in low range, for about 80ks , got it back and had cooked the motor, and wrecked the transfer case. Very expensive borrow!

It sounds to me as though he didn't leave it on, the wind up in the transmission surely would not of let him drive 1000km.
It should of stopped dead or broken something. Just to be sure, I would check for a broken axle.
