Depends on the car - I was taught in race cars it's heel (Or inside of foot) on brake, and toe (or outside of foot) on throttle, but this is going to depend on what's comfortable and the pedal layout to some extent.
All you're trying to do though is match engine revs to bring the clutch up quickly, but while you're still braking for a corner or whatever. Doesn't really matter the actual mechanics of the technique as long as you achieve the end result. Do have to watch not getting your foot stuck in road cars that don't have their pedal layouts designed with this in mind though.![]()

I agree. Both will work and I guess it depends on what is most comforable.
The reason that I suggested toe on the brake is that I find that you get better brake feel and control through your toe than heel. Braking with the toe is the way I (and I think others) normally brake, so the blip on the accelerator becomes a modification of the normal action. To do it the other way around would be a totally new action (for me at least).
To be honest, I can't imagine doing it the other way.

Toe on brake and heel on accelerator is normal, and before any drive experience comments, I have been driving for 37 yrs. If you watch any of the V8 racing on telly, they quite often show a camera view in the footwell, and these drivers all use toe on brake and heel on accelerator.

Why you need to do it in a Disco I cant work out unless you racing it as it is only really good for matching revs in a non syncro box as you can do more damage than good doing it in a syncro box as Ive described before with double clutching.
But in saying that, I had welded syncros in my 120y race car many years ago and used to heel and toe all the time for smoothe changes and a more possitive change and it is definatly heel on accelerator pedal and toe on the brake but you have to set up your pedal box for it to do it properly and set you accel pedal and brake pedal at about the same position but close together.
The reason you use your toe on the brake is deffinatly the feel and the fact the brake pedal is set higher in the pedal box so it would be a bit of a twist to then use your toe on the accel pedal.
I tend to use the left side of my size 10 1/2 on the brake and the right on the accelerator even in race shoes but like I said I set it up like that.

When I "heel and toe" it is definately more toe on brake, right side of foot on accelerator (sort of rolling my ankle to the right to do it). My ankle doesn't swivel to allow me to use the heel on the accelerator pedal!
Right up untill they need to move or a tow..........
just take it slow and easy, keep a little foot on the noisey pedal and be a bit softer on the clutch pedal on the way up...
not enough to ride it but just enough...
learning to double clutch is the best thing tho, the synrcos in landrovers arent renowned for being the longest living thing on the planet.
as previously mentioned you'll also need it if you get hooked into SII's or trucks but it will also stand you in good stead if you get a damaged box or have a sticking clutch...
