    NON LR post, Marine diesel question

    The boat we went out on was driven by a Scania D11 marine engine.
    The (non working) rev counter is Mech/Electronic,,,
    at the right angle connection there is a mech worm drive to allow another to drive the magnetic sensor.
    I'm not sure why the worm drives are required unless a gearing change is needed??

    anyway, are these setups common?
    used in something else?


    replacement of original meter is not on ,,
    (just think Disco heater core)

    know any marine junkyards?

    as a sugestion
    you should be able to pick up a pulse signal off the alternator and just use a VDO style guage

    volvo would be the parts people i imagine...

    but i really dont follow your description to be frank..

    are you after a right angled worm drive or a cable or ? ?

    yea,, clear as mud,,,
    two cables feed into a right angle metal worm joint,

    both cables are there and turn freely,
    so I figure its the actual right angle worm drive thats broken,,

    again I dont know why the alternator cable doesnt just feed straight into the pulse system,,
