Some more info for anyone contemplating the change to ABS sals.
The axle stubs are the same as the sals ABS and D1 ABS rears, FTC 3188.
The ABS harness and sensors are the same as the existing P38 diff ones.
The brake calipers are the same as the existing ones,
The tailshaft to suit the Sals is required , Or cut down the existing one to fit; (The distance between flanges at rest on level ground is 1100mm for the sals equipped fender.)
The halfshafts are different lengths between the P38 and sals although the splines and drive flanges are the same
The trailing arms and ball joint bracketry/ geometry are the same
And on a less serious note,
The P38 diff weighs about half of the sals:o:o
Having seen the insides of these a few times now (!)The sals will last a LLLOOONNNGGG time more than the P38 diff, even when used as a bulldozer blade!
I remember posting something way back about unsprung weight and ground clearance issues with the sals, but even taking all this into consideration I would still use one, having seen the alternatives and not wishing to fit any T*&^%a bits to my RR.

Im going sailsbury, I dont mind the loss of ground clearance, (I'll shave it later) But I do a fair bit of touring and towing so the extra strenght of the sailsbury is going to do me in good stead.
True, but if your going to shave, then you would shave the rover housing and it will be better again. The Salisbury is still a plow and the CW size makes it so. Fitting Toy stuff is no different to fitting Maxidrive stuff really is it - I mean if we want to be purists then neither are from Solihull. Toys that break are Toys that are not built right in my opinion eg solid pinion spacers etc, but they're still stronger than a Rover and probably still comparible to a Salisbury short of going to a 35 spline.Quote:

As I said, I have a rover diff with 235/85's at present. I still think I'll be close enough not to be a problem with 255's and a bigger diff I'll be back almost where I am now, which is good enough for me.
And I 've already contaminated my Rover with a Jap diesel....

Mmmmm interesting, is the Toy CW&P an easy fit to the D2 rear with a Maxi drive, i'm assuming the D2 has the same centre as the P38 and late Defender.
I'm thinking of going to 4.11s and need the best option.

This decrease the clearance by 15mm but acts as a slide...;) Protects the diff and the pinion..
