    2007 Defender 1st Drive!

In the current issue of 4x4 Australia is one of those UK preview drives. 5 pages of what we mostly know already.

    Stuff I didn't know

    - Syncromesh is on reverse, I wondered if this might be dropped,
    - Softer springs & more castor,
    - "New" propshafts for "strength"
    - "Angles have been tweaked to extend the new CV joints life span".. huh?
    - Locking the CDL is a matter of pushing a button!
    - Stiffer anti-roll bars - although Aust spec cars may not have them of course.

Not sure about the CDL button.. how long before that plays up?

    Regards
    Max P

Great looking rear seats. It looks like if I want to get them for my Defender, I'll have to get the floor locking mechanism as well. I wonder how transferable it will be.

I also like the plastic bullbar.

    Thanks for the pics.

    G'day Folks

That loverly line of shiney rivets just behind the rear door sure is a lot neater looking than the ones on Numpty's Fender and the panel looks a lot straighter wonder if the 3rd row of seats will make it Aust

    cheers

Funny that. I thought .. nice looking, but very impractical. Slight bump and no doubt it would bend back and POW bent panels

    - Syncromesh is on reverse, I wondered if this might be dropped, Unlikely - many cars have it, I presume including the Transit
    - Softer springs & more castor, Why more castor? Possibly because suspension is set higher for the benefit of the softer springs.
    - "New" propshafts for "strength" ???
    - "Angles have been tweaked to extend the new CV joints life span".. huh? Reduced lock?
    - Locking the CDL is a matter of pushing a button! Back to the future - as in the vacuum operated CDL lock of the Range Rover and 110 with four speed box.
    - Stiffer anti-roll bars - although Aust spec cars may not have them of course. To compensate for the softer springs as far as handling goes. Likely to stay for the Australian ones, as most will be sold to city drivers who never go offroad - not many country dealers left!

The inside looks good apart from the Kermit vents, and it will take a while for that bonnett bulge to grow on me. Ditto re rivets.
