    Another brake question

How much should non geniune LR discs and pads cost fitted?

I need to get it done and am looking between LR service centres or the specialist brake places or MIDAS type places.

I would prefer the LR mechanic to do it as they will also have it for a service but I am finding the $900.00 just for the brakes a little hard to swallow.

    Vehicle is Disco II TD5

    Hi Jeff
Buy all the new bits then contact Kie4(Richard).Karcraft is a good place to try for parts. He is a Landy mechanic, but now working on the mines. He did my head gasket for a fraction of the stealers rate.
    Nice bloke,send him a PM.
If you or the better half are any good at painting houses he was chasing swaps labour for labour to paint his house a week or 2 ago!!!!

Just curious - you did say 'replace discs'? Although you should steer clear of certain dealers for servicing and especially Midas - $900 isn't that bad to replace all 4 discs and do the pads on a TD5 as it's a pretty big job. Ask Coopers at Tempe, at least you'll have a 2nd opinion.

When I did 4x discs and pads on my Disco2 it cost me $916 in parts only, using EBC parts. The actual work itself is nothing too mind bending though.

depending on model theres more parts to be replaced than just the rotors and pad.......

but you also should get fitted (if done properly with all due respect to preventitive maintenance)

the bolts that mount the rotor to the hub
the seals in the hub (bearings should be cleaned and inspected at this point, replaced as needed)
the lock washers or locking nut for the hubs

and the following checks should be done.

    swivel pin freeplay
    suspension bushing
    steering alignment
    steering box bolt torque.

so IMHO $900 parts inclusive for 4 new rotors isnt too bad PROVIDING all of that is done.

    thanks for all the replies.

I phoned ABS (Auto Brake Service) in Kewdale and they quoted 300 for parts and 200 for labour. Total of around $500.00

These guys are brake specialists, have a pretty good well known outfit with 3
stores, why the difference of 400.00 to the LR mechanic? Both quoted non genuine parts. In fact ABS even itemised the rotors and pads front and back for me.

If im missing anything important I will go for the more expensive option but not just for the sake of it.

    Thoughts?

    whatever you are comfortable with,,
    its your money

a quick brake fluid change at home afterwoods would be my next option.
