Volvo have their own 2.4 litre 5 cylinder turbo diesel, called the D5. It's a completely different, all alloy engine, based on their own "whiteblock" petrol engine design. It's an excellent engine.

I'd rather see a Chinese company buy the Land Rover than a private equity group. The talk around the private equity scenario with Qantas was that they'd strip the company of assets, load it with debt and on sell it to a third party like a chinese airline - they'reafter a short to medium term return.
At least looking at what happened to MG, the Chinese guys making them believe in the product. And with Chinese production, we can be assured of enough sales volume to keep the company going. There was talk 10-15 years ago about the Defender becoming a national car for China as it was better suited to emerging; 3rd world and agricultural markets, and the Chinese could deliver it at a realistic price.

just becasue your rich doesnt mean to say your bright
Diamler bought Chrysler for nearly $40 billion sold it for under $10 billion wish l could afford to lose 75% of my investment and still be happy about it.
BMW bought Landrover and then sold it
Ford bought Landrover and wants to sell it - must be a reason 2 multi national car companies cannot be wrong.
Jaguar hasn't been able to compete with BMW or Mercedes and won't survive as a car manufacturer is my bet.
Landrover would be best owned either by the Chinese and produced for mass agricultural market which means Range Rover disappears
Gets bought by small consortium interested in making specialist luxury vehicles which means Defender likely to disappear.
At the end of the day if your not making money your not in business
All well and good, not....
Ford may want to sell, but they have to find a buyer......so who's gonna stump up some $$$ for this?
I kinda agree with what was said re the Chinese, there may (or may not) be a manufacturer (and China has many) but if they bring it in house, well, they wont be Land ROvers like we know...
Also, the Chinese are brilliant at making copies of many vehicles, why would any of them bother forking out some hard earned Yuan, for something thay can easily copy? if poorly? buy a market? world wide? from what i've read, they're having enough of a tme keeping up with local demand....
As China goes yuppy, the idea is not impossible, but local taxes in Beijing and Shanghai on even tiny cars is another issue......
Answer: Macquarie Bank, there's enough execs in that empire to keep the RR/Disco prod line going forever.

OMG.
A Land Rover could look like a Renault Scenic![]()

Or, if they can't find a buyer they cut their losses and stop production
Then no one gets anything.

It's a pitty
We could put a bid in. Everyone pays $10 and we just offer that up.
We could then move it to Australia.
