This is my V8 disco crossing the Wonnangatta River on Friday on the way to Eaglevale last weekend (46 vehicles and 90+ guys). The Kingswell bridge was closed and the river markers were showing 600mm and 800mm. The disco got through with no probs except a little water entering through the drivers side doors. The rangie in front got thorough ok but wasn't running so well for a little while after and he lost both lights. My Hella 4000's were half full of water too. I did the same crossing again on Sunday too after getting fuel at Dargo.

A snorkel is the next item on the shopping list...

sad when your land rover club mates don't tell you not to go through a deep muddy puddle that they know is a vehicle trap

when they dont tell you to put your snatch strap on first in case you stop mid way through

when they dont advise you to put an engine blind on before surging through

but at elast no one laughed or cheered when he drained his pride and joy of the water from the inside of the vehicle

and someone stayed wiht him while he was flat bed away from the scene of the crime

    4wd impact

I think the underlying point here is: as responsible Land Rover owners, if a useful path around a deep waterhole is available and allows us to minimize our environmental impact - we should opt to take it.

As responsible owners, we should actively encourage other drivers to adopt driving styles that are within the Tread Lightly code.

The future of enjoying 4wd vehicles in National Parks depends on this attitude shift.

I enjoy taking my Land Rover out on trips - in particular, I enjoy where my vehicle can take me.
Feeling good about what my vehicle can do is not the reason I bought a 4wd.

Probably the same reason that mountain climbers climb mountains .

If there is a chicken track, I'll take it. I'm not into vehicle damaging excursions.

That puddle isnt on the main track its off to the side.
There is no need to try if you dont need to.
Here is another pic of a puddle further up.Almost as deep, twin lockers only stoped the same result, the same amount of water came out when the doors open,he was stuck in there for 4 or 5 mins!!!!

But you know you just cannot help some people.
I recall that on a club trip near Yalwal, we came across a water feature with a Hilux stuck coming towards us, spinning its wheels hung up on the diffs.
I walked the hole with a new member, and I told him he would get stuck if he tried it in his Disco , as the height between wheels was to much and he would hang on his diffs. He could not understand this and insisted on trying it, of course getting stuck in the middle. I backed up and insisted he get into the cold water with his snatch strap, and he was a bit unimpressed.
His rear diff later failed from water entry although this prompted him to fit a Maxi.LOL.
He is now a very enthusiastic meember of the club and contributes a lot from experience, but initially its hard to educate people sometimes.
    Regards Philip A
