    Drowned Disco.

Just an update on the drowned Disco on the WA Powerline. It's been fixed by Richard (kie4) and it was the ignition module. My son waded the track first and if I'd known the driver had a bloody engine management computer I would have advised him not to and I certainly didn't realise it was quite as deep as it turned out to be.
He was towed firstly to a safe place and then him and his wife came out with Will for the rest of the day which was good fun.
Afterwards he was towed by Will to my son's place who looked after them, the RAC were contacted and they sent the tow truck which took them a long way to their northern suburbs home at around 2200hrs.
All's well that ends well and I hope Jason and Clare's carpets have now dried out OK.
    Alan.

It's also a matter of money. I can't afford to repair damage caused by severe off-roading. My income is $15K down on last year for the same period (that's an average of $600 per fortnight) as I'm not getting any O/T or even weekend work. My hourly rate is a lot less than yours. Add to that the increase in interest rates on my mortgage and I'm going backwards. I'll have to sell the house if I'm going to retire next year.

I should be selling the P38A and getting a cheap car.

    Hi Alan
We all rally around broken down friends on a trip to make sure they get home OK.
The lesson here is to make sure the newbies dont dive in too deep first time around.Sometimes peoples ego needs to be steped on and say no dont do it.
Ive seen more than several surprising incedents on trips where everybody just watched it happen. The fix up get them safe then becomes the DUTY of the others on the trip.
We are doing a trip to Harvey on saturday to try and help some of our newbies to avoid such a situation.
Alan Im not blaming you or any of the others on the trip for the drowning, peoples adrenalin gets flowing and they think they can do the impossible,my point is its up to us all to take some resonsability for others who arent as experienced and say "not a good idea pull your head in" Most dont take nicely to such advice but perhaps we all need to be a tad tougher for everyones benefit.

hi all i'm the one whose disco your all talking about and i thought i'd drop my twopenny's worth
i've obviously just been reading all your comments and wow, i never realised it would cause such a stir.

it's a steep learning curve but one i'm glad i took ( did i just say that) when i did, rather than late on a sunday aft with just my misses and no help for miles ( or klm's)

i bought the car cos i wanted to do a bit of touring and get into 4wding and i'll give anything a go once.
i only use it on weekends and if it was my daily runner i probably wouldn't have done it .
as for environmental impact and always taking the track that does less damage - there was a perfectly good, hard wearing bitumen "track" about 200metres to the left called the highway - perhaps that's the one we should take and give it all up.
these vehicles are bought by people like me to have fun in and whilst i'm not a lotto winner i work hard and i'm entitled to spend/(waste- have you been talking to my misses) my money on whatever i choose
the disco is all sorted now with the starting problem being the ignition module as stated by alan, i stripped out all the interior sunday dried everything and have now refitted everything, done all the oils and am ready for the next adventure.
as for e-bay i think i'll hold on to her for a while longer (as i'm still learning and am likely to do a bit more damage) before she's advertised as never having been off road.
I'm going down to harvey this weekend and will be a tad more cautious so fingers crossed you'll all have someone else to talk about next week!

Hey everyone in WA, entertaining thread.

I am a newbie, can you give some more detail on this harvey trip, as in where are you meeting, approx kms and time. Sounds like a good day out and i am keen to put my disco through the paces (but not before walking he bogholes, attaching snatch strap......).

I am in Perth, 300tdi disco, no mods.
