You do realise *most* people doing something like that already have the recovery straps attached......

very sad to see someone hurt his equipment by being ill prepared.
it shows that one should be prepared before one attempts that sort of thing.
if he had a snatch strap already fitted to the front, it would not have been in the water for so long and maybe he should have given it the berries earlier which may have got him further across.
also would have been nice to know if he was the first of the group to attempt the hole, and did they check the depth?
anyway i hope he didn't ruin much and gets out of that without too much expense.
wtf ???
no 'walk the track'.... no engine shroud .... no brains !!!
thanks for sharing.
Pete
There was a video of a patrol doing exactly that from the other side of the exact same water hole a few months back......same results.
As Harry said, fit the snatch strap first as this always means you will get through
Sad to say something similar happened to me a few years back with my TD5 D2. Had just been serviced and the MAF wire on the air box got trapped in the bottom corner of the air filter box when re-fitted so left a small gap......anyway....you can pretty much guess the rest, car stalled mid crossing and nothing. Water inside the car everywhere - stacker ruined and carpets soaked. Thankfully, after a couple of hours the old girl sparked back into life again and drove me home ready to fight another day but lesson learned.....always make sure you are ready for what you face....have also since "beefed up" the door seals......but have yet to put them to the test properly
Great vid and may use this for our forthcoming training day.
Aye, Mick
I must admit, I'd never try that.

Sure the water's deep, but looks like a reasonably smooth base in the waterhole. I can't see why he didn't make it. He must have been in the wrong gear and not enough welly.
