    Political Correctness

Just got this gem E-mailed to me.

Following is the winning entry from an annual contest calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term. This year's term: Political Correctness.

"Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

    Love it.

I remember a bloke at work when I was in Telstra, in all seriousness, amended a document to change "manhole" to "personhole". That's the problem with doing global changes when editing.

I suggested he change it to 'pit' - e.g., pit cover, rathan personhole cover.

(what would it have done with "women", "menstruation", or "hymen" )

The obvious problem with his correction is that "personhole" has a gender-specific term in it too... ie "son".

Therefore it should have been corrected to "persiblinghole"

    Cheers

Bugger political correctness, I want to know why a Telstra technical document about pit covers included reference to manholes, menstruation and hymens (I checked it is hymens).

    Cheers
