130's rule
Most probably dirt bikes involved. The looks of the area, the farm road type wheel tracks. Looks a lot like the area I grew up in, in South Aussie's Adelaide hills.
No big deal getting any vehicle into most of those sort of places.
Can be a slip and slide affair in a 2WD, but any decent driver should have no trouble at all.
No surprise an Ambulance got in there.
It is only the City folk, who have never seen a farm area, who think it is 4WD only. You know, the journalist, who has to beat up the story to sell the news.
Any body been keeping up with the news on the Kerang truck train crash?
From what I could make out in the computer simulation, that truck driver was desperately trying to force the rig into a spin, to try to avoid the train.
It is apparently an odd angled crossing, the truckie, was closer to the line than the signals allow for a safe stop from his direction. He did all he could, on and off the rig and trailer brakes, down through the box, and trailer brake her again and again to force it into a spin. Full load, not a hope in hell.
An entire family of five lost during the big storm on the East coast.
And Nobby's Beach has a new amusement ride.
We must be starting to run short on ambulances by now, surely.
Shorty.
came across the remainder of this party on Sunday. Apparently one of the group took a tumble off the river bank in the dark. A drop of 2-3 metres.
He suffered suspected spinal injuries hence the air ambo. The group didn't look to me like red necks or a group that had a habit of inbibing to excess. Their vehicles didn't give the impression of being members of the red neck fraternaty either, in fact they were being lead by a fender 130.
G'day shorty,
It was a suprise (to me) to see the ambo in there as it is not somewhere a 2wd goes (thats not to say impossible). It was historically a cattle station (now parks land), it is in the middle of the victorian high country amongst seasonally closed 4wd tracks.
Last weekend would have been particualy harder given the amount of mud/slippery tracks and the rivers are up.
To get in the valley there are 3 ways:
1 via eaglevale which includes a lot of deep river corssings
2 via myrtleford which is probably the easiest (some steep bits & and 1 relatively deep river crossing)
3 via licola thats probably a bit to rough and a long trip.
Its a nice place though, just a little crowded on public holidays.

NJZ & I were at Woonangatta Station on Saturday around 1400hrs, when did this happen?
We were staying at Eaglevale over the long weekend and did a day trip to Woonangatta Station via Wombat Track

I assisted an air ambulance rescue of an injured trail bike rider in April 06 just north of Wonnongatta. I was providing 4wd backup/radio relaying for an organised ride when a rider came to grief on Humphrey River track near the bottom of Water Spur track. There was no-where for the helicopter to land so the paramedic was winched down to attend to the rider then both were winched back to the chopper hovering above the tree tops. An interesting experience. The rider copped an $8000 bill for that. Lucky he was covered with ambulance cover as apparently NSW rego (he was from Sydney) did not cover his costs in Vic. It was an interesting experience.
I suspect that since the bush fires before Christmas the roads (not tracks anymore) will be like highways to allow for the massive fire fighting effort that was needed to fight the fires.
I can remember the day when if you had been to Wonnongatta Station you had really been somewhere as it was a major effort to get there. Sadly most of the challenging tracks are being upgraded or closed.
