Yes, sniping is fun and adds to the adrenalin rush. I think all my auction purchases have been made with bids in the last 10 seconds.
Four bid windows open side by side, all with different bid amounts in ready to hit "confirm bid". I even got one item with the final bid time the same as the close of auction time!
Also, use odd amounts in the bids. My rule of thumb is to bid $2.07 more than any whole amount when setting a maximum bid. Many people go $1 more, others go $1.05 more etc. etc. This seems to win every time.
When "hunting" for an item it was easy to build up a list of who else was out there shopping and where they finished bidding on previous items. This is a lot harder now that Ebay hides the bidder details.
