    Ebay not happy.

Was putting up a bunch of ads on ebay tonight. Listed four things.

Two of them got rejected, one of them disappeared.

The two rejected were relists from last week and were bumped because I used the word cash in my ad. Well, wash my mouth out. Apparently I was soliciting for cash payment through the mail and that is against ebay policy. Don't quite know how that works with my listing which said pick up only.

The other ad just disappeared. It's there on my active sales listing, but if I look through the category there ain't nothing.

Went looking through the help files and it says something about your listing maybe disappearing for up to 24 hours.

I wonder how many times this has happened before? This might be the first time I've tried to browse to an ebay listing of mine.

    Cheers

the listing may dissapear for up to 24 hours while multiple servers update themselves...

if youve had other items flagged out for admin reasons such as cash your subsequent to a more thorough checking regiem,

Ive had it happen when I was selling pick up only cash only items a quick email to their support crew will usually sort it.

    Ebay sux egg's,

We got kicked because we had repeated complaints from a seller who we couldnt get in contact with to organise delivery and payment.

We sent at least 20 emails to him and Ebay saying that his email want responding or he want answering our emails and then he posted negative feedback and subsequently several emails to Ebay saying we didnt pay or pick up the item.

I had an add for the Jeep knocked twice when first I put in that at the end of the auction if not sold I would consider a swap, they didnt like that and said I couldnt use the word swap in an add, bubt then they sell swap cards all the time and there were other car adds that gave me the idea.

The problem we have now is that we cannot resume using Ebay as we cannot contact the person blocking us as he is no longer a member and the only way to fix our account up is have him say that he is sattisfied with a resolution that we have to strike with him.

It is guilty until prooven inocent with them, we cant just sign up under another name as this happend under my wifes original account and they band us from our account that we started when we got married but traced through the credit card numbers apparently.

They suck big time, there is no way we can use them because of 1 vindictive ar$e and we have no way of changing that as far as they are concerned.

If I list an item on eBay, I have the same problem. I usually load it late at night & I check the listing afterwards but it's not there.
It's on by the next morning usually though.

    Fleece bay!

Hmm have had all this and more. But I love Ebay and what i can buy with it.

Mcrover, email the support team and explain and they should allow you to get back on or open another account and use a different CC etc.

I have more than one account and have at least one acct registered in the USA. I was an early adopter and am very Ebay savvy now.

    Rant mode on...
    The bad
    1) Ebay supports the sellers. Penalties for withdrawing own bid and enforced by strikes etc but a seller can list same item over and over and cancel all bids and listing if the bids not high enough with no penalty.

    2) Ebay only care about their fees and not the buyers or sellers who get ripped off.

    3) Just try and actiually speak to any representative. Every emal goes to different person.

    4) they buy the competition and close them down!

    The really bad
    1) They do not understand or allow any discussion about their rules. I got into bidding war over an item and I placed a large bid amout way above the only other bidders higest bid and let the auto bid feature in Ebay look after it. The other bidder placed 35 bids up and up and up within the last 30 minutes to finaly find the size of my bid by becoming the high bidder. He then cancelled his bids saying he accidentally bid too much!. ebay left my bid at its maximum even though there were no other bidders! 35 accidental bids!! Ebay just told me I placed the bid at that ammount and no discussion would be entered into? First negative strike in huge feedback!

    2) Another guy listed an item several times and cancelled it when bids not up to his expectations. I emailed him to ask "how much he wanted or was he going to keep cancelling the listings". He complained to Ebay and had my account suspended on the basis of unsolicited email. he then contacted Optus my ISP and had my top level cable internet connection and account suspended under the anti-spam act for unsolicited email. the email i sent went through Ebay and contained basically the words above nothing more. Was just before Christmas and took until mid January to finally get the truth out of Optus as to what happened. They just kept telling me there was a fault on my end and not with their system , I bought new computer / software/ modem / router etc Nearly ruined my ebusiness as well.

    3) had 3 sellers give bad feedback immediatly after the auction with bogus reason just because bids not high enough

    The good
    1) Some amazing bargains to be had.
    2) Can access the world
    3) Can sell some real junk for real money!
    4) privacy! can buy what you would never buy in public / fetish / kinky / weird or just unusual.
    5) Oh did I mention bargains! Some absolute steals some times.
    6) january can be the best month for buyers

    My Rules
    1) Use Ebay to connect with sellers.
    2) If you really want an item contact the seller and make an offer before any other bids placed (the sale can still be done legally through Ebay)
    3) SNIPE!
    4) have multiple accounts.
    5) Challenge every strike every time.
    6) learn boolean search terms
    7) Be the last to leave feedback (after the other party)
    8) sell something, thats how Ebay works and you learn both sides of sale.
    9) Do your research first. Know the value of items and read the seller and other bidders feedback and the pattern of their bidding.
    10) SNIPE! no impulse over bids and no missed / forgotten bids

    Rant off

But most of all have fun

But it really is safer now than it was but bargains a little harder to get

    Something like this
    http://adam.ac.uk/info/boolean.html

Another way of approaching it is that if you're looking for cheap stuff, go looking in places that most people aren't looking: misspelt keywords, incorrect categories.

Also try exclusive searches. In ebay you can exclude phrases, either in advanced search or by using "-(words,to,exclude)" without quotes. There is a character limit on this, and it takes a bit of time to get it right, but if you're looking for something and you know what it isn't. For example laptop parts categories are usually overflowing with batteries and ac adapters. Good way to sort the wheat from the chaff.

yes, I might search laptops with something like this:

    toshiba -hdd -battery -case

That would find every entry for Toshiba but would exclude listings with HDD, battery or case inb the title.

I use Gixen (www.gixen.com) for sniping.

    I also use GoofBay http://www.goofbay.com/index
