You could do a lot lot worse than speak to your own Wesfamers
Been with them for years & never once disappointed. Very fair & claims have been settled quickly. Ask around about them in WA.

Not exactly Land Rover related, I know, but as I'm relatively new to Oz, I'm after recommendations...
Who's good, who's cheap, and who's good & cheap?
Many thanks....

Oh, and are there any good "broker" type websites which will search for a bunch of quotes on common criteria so you can at least narrow the ringing around and detailed question asking to a shortlist of candidates?

we were in your situation in november.. we originally went with budget for house , contents, and both cars to 'get a deal' all was good until we got the documents and i checked them and found that we had been lied to about some very specific questions.. when checking up with them, they agreed i was in the right but would do nothing to sort the problem out.. so i called GIO (im pretty sure its them not sgio) talked to them and they undercut the price and sorted everything out straight away! since then we keep getting extras added on and even had a cheque back for $150 that we havent got a clue what its for!
anyway.. GIO seemed to be very good (will check later to make sure its not sgio) pretty helpful and also cheap.. if you chuck everything at them.. i guess its a start as next year i will shop around.. its just i didnt have chance nor the knowledge to be 100% that i had the cheapest..
oh they also covered me for my bikes.. one being worth around 4.5k and the other around 2.5k.. not many othrs would touch that..
if you need any more info about this or anything else we learned.. feel free to PM me..
Thanks
Steve

We have GIO also. At the time we switched they were very competative and helpful. Only had one claim with the car and they did pay in the end but took 6 months as the other party kept ignoring the letters. Once I pointed out they had my statement and the police report they agreed and fixed the car.
Been hearing a few horror stories up here lately.
It appears there is a major difference between flood damage and storm damage.
Now apparently the Hunter copped a lot of rain recently (did it make the news?)
Houses/cars etc in the Newcastle area and suburbs were damaged by the storm, and are covered.
Houses/cars etc in the towns near the Hunter & Williams rivers were damaged by flood, and not covered.
Also heard of a story about a very large tree that was "going" fall on a couple of houses.
The owner cantacted the SES who said he is low on the priority list. They were dealing with ones that actually had fallen. - Fair enough.
He waited, and waited, (a couple of days) and then got the tree cut down by a contractor. Cost a fortune. Neighbours agreed to pay for some of the cost because their houses were not destroyed. Insurance doesn't cover it!
There is also talk of damaged retaining walls not covered.
