    Melb: Water restrictions... Wash Caravan?

Does anyone know with the current water restrictions in Melbourne if i can wash down the caravan or if i need to haul it to a car wash?

Only info i can find applies to cars

    --------------------------------------------------------
Under Stage 3a water restrictions, can I wash my car?

An efficient commercial car wash that uses 70 litres of water or less per vehicle can be used. Look for signage that is to be displayed and informs you how many litres of water are being used for each car washed.

A bucket, filled directly from a tap can be used to clean windows, mirrors and lights; and spot-remove corrosive substances.

    --------------------------------------------------------

I need to clean the mud off after the Sheepyard trip before putting it back into storage

Depends if a Caravan is classified as a Vehicle. As is is registered I would presume it is. Safest thing would be to tow it down to a carwash ?

From the Water Victoria site : www.ourwater.vic.gov.au

Apart from the legal thing there is the ethical side as well, I suppose. I now have a 5000 litre rainwater tank and it is full . I can do what I like.

I'd say no, you can't wash your boat even (unless you tow it to a carwash ),only flushing the motor is allowed, so I would doubt a caravan would be allowed.
I can't even wash my house down to remove dirt before painting for fear of getting dobbed in.

You can if you have recycled water...

If you don't have a tank... pop a downpipe off run it into a wheely bin..

One decent rain and you are sure to have enough...the weather is cold enough it should rain in the next few days...

Except that a commercial car wash has to recycle their water.

Before you take your van to the car wash I'd check you can manouvre your van into the bay first.

You can use a bucket to clean windows and corrosive spots (bird poo). Once you've done that, the water in the bucket becomes grey water and you can proceed to clean the rest of the vehicle with it.

Yeh... you are right.... but stuff them...

If they send around the water police... I can show them the downpipe... show them the wheelie bin...

And if they look at my water bills.. we are averaging just under 75lt per person per day in our house (about half of what Yarra Valley Water reckon a 4 person family on a property this size should use....)

I figure if I want to wash the car... I'm already doiing my bit.. I'll use rainwater and anyone that doesn't like it can get stuffed

The thought of trying to manoeuvre close to 40 feet of LR and caravan into a carwash on a Saturday was way to daunting..

I filled a 20 litre bucket and washed it down with that and a broom.
