    Back Window

Some little scrote smashed the back window of my 95 Discovery last night. The window's presently held together with window tint and good luck ... so what $$$s am I looking at and any suggestions for supplier/fitter in the Perth metro area. Vehicle is under my 22 yo son's insurance, so we're not looking at a claim 'cos his excess will blow out. Well, not looking at claim now: I'll wait until I find out the dollars involved.

    Thanks,

    Grant

have a ring around the wreckers you might be able to get a second hand one and then have a windscreen place fit it

No idea what a new peice of glass would cost. Probably cheaper to buy a second hand door and swap the glass (or the whole door if the paint matches).

However as for insurance I would look in to it for two reasons.

    1. It shouldn't matter how old your son is as he wasn't driving.
    2. Does he have a one free glass replacement per year?

On my policy I am covered for one peice of glass per year (calendar. financial, policy year etc I don't know). No excess and retinted if the tint is listed on your policy. Think it cost another $10 to $30ish per year.

Give OBriens a call, or try one of the local wreckers.

Be ready for a shock, normally side and rear glass is substantially dearer than a windscreen. Our insurance covers us for 1 windscreen and all other glass with no excess.

A new back glass is about $450 I think but when I broke mine there seemed to be plenty of second hand ones around for approx $150-$170 plus about $80 for a mobile fitting. Shop around cause they vary. I'm from east coast but ring the wreckers.

Thanks to all for the responses - ring round the wreckers will be the first option. I'm assuming that D1 and D2 back windows are the same ?

    Cheers,

They may very well be, but I wouldn't bet $150 on an assumption.
    Cheers

When it happened to my D2, I was quoted $600 up to $2000 seriously someone quoted me $2000. I got the $600 option from Windscreens Obrien. Make sure you get the original LR item, it may take a few days to get in but you know the demister will work.

Indeed Slunnie, but I've bet more than $150 over the years on the assumption that Lotto will come in "this time"

There's a code at the bottom left of the window, which I can't read due to the shattering, so I'll need to sus that out for D1s and D2s. Used to be that there was a dot above a letter in the glass maufacture's name that specified the year ... but is that an urban myth ?

    Thanks,

    Grant
