Yep I enjoy the sport and enjoy teaching the sons how to handle rifles and watching their hunting skills develop. It is a great father and sons experience. We have a couple of Winchester 30/30s, a 45/70, two shotguns and are in the process of purchasing a Ruger 30/06.
current weapon is an 5.56mm jobbie... not bad for an over grown hand gun with full auto and semi... Its not bad for rabbit hunting but the Roos about where I shoot seem to have obtained kevlar felts the rotton buggers.. so the L1A1 SLR with 7.62 is my bang stick of choice... much better penetration and being a heavier weapon I find it more stable in the prone and supported positions.
Of course occasionally that just doesnt cut the mustard so to speak as sometimes the roos congrgate together and after the first round they scatter, in these instances I like to step up to the 40mm m79 aka the Wombat gun the HE rounds take care of a great many things.
unfortunately the roos are not so kind as to group up nice and close which means its time to wheel out the Carl Gustav 84mm, the HEDP is nice and with about a 50m killing radius it usualy gets 2 or 3. Occasionally the roos hide behind trees so theres no substitute for the HESH round and as a bonus if working at night you can light up a couple of foot ball fields with the Ilume rounds.. but you only get about 30-90 seconds of light so your reloads need to be sharpish... on one rare occasion Skippy was foolish enough to not heed the BBDA clear firing now call and I got one in the front as mince meat and a Skinned BBQ roo behind. Not a bad days feed.
But these are mear toys in the field of mass culling the rabits have been a problem of late and weve found a couple of solutions A claymore wiped in carrot juice will provide plenty of well perforated skins to use as insulaiton linings in walls and for the ranged version a simple 105mm splintex round out of your nearest leopard MBT will solve the problem when the buggers that are eating your grass are on your neighbours property.

I do a lot of shooting up here. I have air guns and .22's (as most do) but have a couple of 308's, 45/70, 458 Win Mag and 50 cal blackpowder carbine. Most shooting is done after roos, pigs, buffalo, scrub bull, donkey etc; with the occassional camel further south. Did live in WA for a time and was limited to roos, goats, emu, dog and rabbits etc.
I do shoot at the local SSAA range on a lot of weekends with mates and other club members.
Other rifles have included 30/30, 44/40, 303's, 30-06 and 12 guage coach gun. The next will be one of those lever action 12 guage guns.
