    Removal of water marks in paintwork

    I have to get the Disco looking good for a special event and the usual trip to car lovers won't be enough. I started polishing the bonnet with miguires x remover and also tried turtles cut and polish but there are stains in the paintwork like water drops that will not come out. What are they and how do I remove them? I thought I better ask before I cut the crap out of the paintwork

    Take it to a professional car detail place and get them to do it all. Expensive yes but they should have all the right stuff.

    If you want to DIY use Maguires soft wash, chamios dry, Kitten cream polish No 1 & buff off, Maguires Wet Look & buff off, finish with Eagle One spray & wipe wax protector. You can spray this over everything and you need to rub it off with a Maguires cotton wipes. Remember to wash underneath the guards good and proper and spray with silicone spray. Spray enough to get the inner guards looking wet. Use black nugget shoe polish on the tyres and then your set.

    It will take you about month to get it just right. You have to allow time for the separate polish & waxes to settle before the next application.

    It should look like a 'bit o' bling' after all this

    Thanks Feral, Sounds like alot of work. I am supprised about these droplet marks in the paint the turtle cutting complond reall dulled the paint but didn't remove the marks. The Miguires polish brought it back up to a good gloss but the marks or stains are still there. Normally it too dirty to notice.

    And a day to get it all dirty and scratched again.
    Never thought of boot polish on the tyres but maybe a good trick.

    I had that Diff - still do a bit?.... Dont be afraid to polish and polish and polish - it does come out.
    I was sceptical at first, but i bought a cheap ($35?) orbital polisher from super cheap and used that on the bonnet - it certainly made a hard job easy. So much so that the missus wanted to use it and she did the rest of the disco (apart from the roof) - best 35 bucks I ever spent! - oh, and stick with the maguires or Kitten #1. - Matti

    Thanks, I have done a search and the marks are caused by Hard Water or acid rain

    I believe this may be from using car lovers

    BTW what is a clay block or the like? Its a product I have herd mentioned that removes stains from paint work. And no its not a clay brick ans in house brick

    long time ago I used to detail cars, Cut and buffing was my speciality.
    The marks are one of three things A: Boar water vary bad for paint and deadly on glass, B: contamianted water or rain( usually acid Rain) and C:hard water. I d say B: as you take the car to car lovers, and alot of people are washing boat engines there now and so the recylcled water is contaminted with salt. Always use the spot free rince after washing and use a chamois as soon as possible.

    Removing the water drop marks takes time and some times depending on the condition of the duco impossible, its a respray job. ( Normally clear laqure breaks down and the water stains the colour coats and so you cant get it out.

    If you have the confidence use a buffer, on slow revs say about 2300 rpm no more.
    Use a cut specifically designed to be used with buffers. Using the slow rpm wont melt the paint and will give the cutting agent time to work and will have less swirls when you finsh.( dont put to much pressure on the machine and let the pads do the work) after cutting use a good polish and buff it back up again. Its a real messy job and a Discovery used to take me 2 hours to do 100%. Start on the roof and work down top, bonnet then the sides and back.
    To prevent it happening again keep the car well polished, it make sit easier to wash clean after being in mud and does give to duco protection with small branches.

    If your not confident, hand doing it will take along time but it can be done.
    A Detailer will cost about $150- $200 to do it right.

    Dont be tempted to put on of the lambs wool buff things on a drill youll **** the paint staight away use a proper buffer or dont do it.

    Yup I think car lovers are the ones to blame, I normally plast scrup and rince and take off. There's no warnings about having to do the whole process. I might hand it over to a detailer as I burnt out the sander polisher painting the house. I had used it on my black holden ute with success by I am alot lazier now. Any recommendations for the Brisbane area detailers?

    City Wash at Marooka were very good, I used to work there.But hang Ill get in contact with some one stay tuned, He may come out and do it for you!
