Dave, was wondering if the Army vehicles have front and rear Diff Locks, ala Maxi, ARB, Regards Frank.

nope open centers.. the excelent offroadability of them is soley due to the longer and softer than stock springs, and the engine/driveline....
But like anything they are easily let down by poor drivers and bad loading....
Im still not entierly convinced that big red for all her electronic gimickry is any better than a perentine.
however.... there are some "unit" procured add ins that have been installed in some rovers for some units... But Im not supposed to know about them....
I wouldn't call ADF drivers stupid, they are operating under pressure in difficult conditions not just out sightseeing. The big problem was changing from the loud high revving Series 3 to the quieter high geared 110 and the soft suspension caused a different feel when in corners and the feeling of speed was very different. This should have been addressed in training but did not happen until a lot of roll overs had already happened.

Most definitely Jeff.... the issue was with the training, not the drivers behavior.
I've investigated a number of these accidents in the early days, in most instances it was the driver over compensating on corners because of the body roll and in effect initiating the loss of control/roll over.... when in reality the tyres were firmly on the road and no compensation was required.
The affect is further exacerbated on the driver with an increased load, in particular if this raises the centre of gravity... eg, a 110 Fitted For Line carrying all stores would have to be the scariest thing I have ever had the displeasure of driving off or on road.
Cheers,
Pete
point you over to my post in the "Anyone a shooter?" thread and act in a menacing way:bat:
Beg to differ, obviously there are ex-still serving members here and that read the sight. Being on the P Project they did infact cut and shut the rear chassis on the 4x4 for the carriage of the spare, doing this they removed the rear sway bar this inturn affected the handling of the veh hence "no driving over 80ks catchup spead 85-90" hence so many killed before as you would agree in the 90's an "upgrade lic with trl" you can't put a sway bar back on this vehicle without major bracket fitment.
The Project had two SER3 with the 110 motors in it and had 6x 110, I know Jim Doyle had one that was rolled from the Project, he may still have the break down/VIN/cofigerations of the vehs list I gave him of all vehs 4x4/6x6 up till the middle 90's.
The 6x6 had drum rears (90% of the fleet) and they wouldn't stop, so they were retro fitted with disc's, they use the canterlever type for the rear springs, GMV's/ERV's were grosely over weight due to the pod (AMBO's not so bad as they didn't carry the weight only body's), how heavy, when they ran short of cargo's for up NTH they remove these from the STH Army (sent the cargo's up NTH) put them on Mits Canters and they now have cracking in the cross members. As per previous post partson these veh were spec biult by L/R ie the firewalls, they rust bad on the seams, or in a roll over they bend well, ally, can't get them anymore so beware buying "restoration dream"
vehicles.
