I've heard the term Perentie many times over the years and was originally told it was an Aus chassis design that let army ambos stay more level when crossing uneven terrain.
I watched a link (below) someone posted recently to a perentie and it didn't seem much different from my 110.
What is the difference?

The perentie 110 is the vehicle that the then Jaguar Rover Australia submitted and won Project Perentie which was the army's tender for new 4x4 vehicles to replace the series 3 in service.
It is very similar to the 110 (not defender) but has a galvanised chassis, the spare under the rear body, the same isuzu diesel and a full roll over protection system (ROPS). There is also a 6x6 version with a turboed version, but needless to say the chassis is further modified for this and the rear two axles are leaf sprung on the 6x6 vehicles.

the other base model mods include some changes to the tub and seat box layout some refinement between the wheel arches...
lots of mil spec body panels will bolt straight onto a deefer/county and even a series however the same is not true the other way around.
Since big red is due for a service shortly and I happen to have an FFR up on the hoist ATM if I get the 2 on hoist side by side I'll get pics to highlight the differences.
should someone happen to be along with a county/deefer of a more apropriate vinatage Im game to get you on base to do the same.

If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
the chassis was chopped at the back and taken straight back rather than dip back down where it goes over the rear axle. This was done to enable the mounting of the spare tyre underneath.
When I told my mate who was one of the design engineers this was dumb, (spare mounted underneath) he didn't take too kindly to it.
BTW, he was responsible for the 6x6 t/case.
Wasn't into Landies when he had a 6x6 chassis on the stroking machine (actually the shock dyno !, around '98,'99 ??) twisting it up till it cracked.
He also designed a rear anti-roll bar to be retro-fitted to the 4x4's as they were roll oversteering and stupid ADF drivers were driving too fast and crashing. The OE type one wouldn't fit due to the rear chassis changes. I suggested a re-valve in shocks, but he reckoned that no one in the ADF would know when the buggers were gone and people would then keep crashing.
Don't know if it was ever fitted.
