Scallops, thanks, (I think) for commenting on the general sanity of this site

I wonder how your wife came across the thread - it wasn't in the recipes.

I could be wrong, but suspect that was a search for "cats" or something similar.

Does the site need threads like that - no. Does it have them - yes. Should they be thrown out - pLEASE! There are threads that have no interest to me, some that I find unnecessary and offensive, and a lot more that are both interesting and fun to read. The site doesn't need censorship about the taste of jokes on it - how would we ever keep the "Stars" thread going otherwise?

I can remember one of the first threads I read on here - the infamous "tenderisers" thread (thank all that's holy that your wife didn't read THAT one!)

I have come across one (1) only thread deleted in whole, and it was one where someone was ejected from the site.

I think the thread title gave fair warning, your wife wanted to read it (to see just how depraved it was) and found it unamusing, which she knew she would. I think she knows it's a joke, but doesn't find that sort of joke funny. Fair enough. I never found the old saw about the baby in the blender funny either - but it's a joke and I've just repeated it. It's the ridiculousness of the statement which makes it a joke.

I'd be sorry if your wife makes you leave the site, but you do what you have to.

OK, now read the thread. Sympathies if it upset your wife, BUT...it was pretty clear for the first post that not only was it a joke (Though one some may find distasteful), but that any further reading would probably cause as much if not more offence. So, I'm left wondering why anyone so affected would read on? It plainly wasn't a recipe!

So just move that thread to the Mudpit
It has a nice disclaimer warning before entering...

She did a search for recipes and came across a thread concerning skinning a cat - this thread contained many replies offering tips, suggestions and in general condoned completely mindless and cruel acts on cats in particular, as can be gathered from the thread title. My response to her was that it was only meant to be funny - no sane person could really hold these views.

Unfortunately, my wife is a Qld RSPCA volunteer and didn't see it this way - not at all.

What I'd like to question is this - do we really need these sorts of threads on a LR site?

    I vote no.
to be honest i red a little of it and although i didn't read the whole post i remember it just being nudge and a wink kind of thing i to work for the rspca and unfortunatly you cant tell people how to talk and think especialy as they see it as having a laugh so do what i did dont read it..

i truely believe even though i haven't met the majority of this site that people would not go out and be outwardly cruel to an animal from here as all though rough around the edges (some of them can be lol) they seem to be a caring bunch amongst one another

    Cat stuck in air cleaner

Similarly I hate reading about TD5 reliability but you can't escape that either.

JB : No cat and no problems with the TD5 thus far.

Don't take life so seriously you won't get out alive!!!!
While I applaud your wifes commitment & understand the RSPCA does a wonderful job of looking after the animals I sometimes find the workers a tad over sensitive . Fortunately we are all different & being so there will be posts we all love & detest. Think yourself lucky we have the right to free speech!!!!

And....although she loves animals and all that, I bet she eats little cows and chooks, and their eggs, and plants ( they have feeling too you know)

Now...if she really and truly wants to seriously talk camping food then I'm only too happy to talk to another female whose taste I hope gets past Spam and baked beans

Hey! Back up there a bit NM, what's wrong with Spam and beans......Yeah okay ya need seperate sleeping bags ...but spam and beans sure do taste great
