We have a biased opinion however I meant in out of the box offroad capabilities. I'm not saying I'm going to run out and buy one today. Just an observation that like the upcoming Defender it actually looks a lot softer than previous models, they both have similar interiors, similar features, similar engine and gearboxes. The Jeep has the advantage of a convertable option therefore you get a rollcage included in the purchase, on both cars you get front airbags plus on the Jeep side intrusion airbags. A heap of modification options for both vehicles. The Defender still has more storage space.

If you weren't a LR fanatic and were to buy a brand new car tommorow would you honestly give a flying brass Razoo if the vehicles have proper wheel bearings or the same axles as other models?

yep, cause i have heard heaps about them having issues with them....

Why do you think the new upcoming Defender has an interior? It's to fit airbags so the yanks can talk on their mobile phones and drink a gallon of coffee in a cup mounted in the monster sized cup holder.

Face it the new Defender is softer. In the future at this rate they may even have a colour options of purple, pink or even the dreaded beige.

I rented a Lincoln Towncar over there, a while back, had an ashtray the size of a swimming pool:twisted:

The free coffee available in various servos was hilarious - the smallest cup size was 12 ounces.

i have an 99 Xj Cherokee as well as the Rangie and yes the wheel bearing is part of the whole hub and you have buy the whole hub about $300-400 aftermarket dealer $750 each:eek: the rear is different and separate and not expensive but they do run on the axle so if you let them go to long big money. But i've got to say i have done 140000 km with no wheel bearing replacement and there still going strong wish i could say that about my Rangie. I like the jeep same reason as my Rangie they have just that something special about them than a toyo nissan. Ask the kids which car they want to go in and its the Rangie every time.

You will, and for the same reason the new one only has forward facing rear seats - the US market (and probably EU regs too at some point).

I beg to differ. All that's changed up front is a new dash. The reason the Defender was withdrawn from sale in the US was that airbags couldn't possibly be fitted without major re-engineering of the bulkhead, which hasn't happend and won't happen.

If and when they produce the "all new" Defender based on the D3 platform is the soonest you will get airbags.
