    Nuff Nuff (again)

youd think Id learn to shut my mouth and pull away from the keyboard and this place when I do something stupid but here goes....

for over a month now Ive been tinkering with my neighbours commodore trying to get it running and its had me stuffed.....

It drove home and then it wouldnt start.. he flattened the battery trying to start it... i charged the battery and offerd to give him a hand... out come the tools every now and then for a tinker....

    the short version

    We checked
    1. Spark, Yep got that and its at the right timing
    2. Fuel, yep got that theres plenty of pressure in the rail
    3. valves , yep all the rockers and stuff are moving
    4. compression yep all good
    5. injector timing and injector opening yep and all flowing at the right time
    6. spark again
    7. all the sensors on the engine for operating spec, all within range
    8. immobiliser nahh cant be that got both fuel and spark

None of you will ever guess what it was.....

Every time we checked something it was there and working, Id clean the tools and trays away from the top of the radiator and hed go to start it, nothing....

tools back check something its there its all good, it wont start....

pack it away its gotta start, nope.... Bugger...

Ive been at this for a month now. tonight it started....

The imobiliser has a magnetic switch on it. I have a magnetic tool tray.. you get one guess as to where I was putting that tray while I was working on the engine and where it was when he went to start it....

all that was wrong was the magnet on the hood had come unstuck and slid out of place when he opened it to check oil/water. 10 seconds with a phillips head screwdriver and it was fixed....

Howd I find that out? I was perving on his missus who was getting around in a skimpy top doing the washing and didnt get chance to pull the tool tray away before he started it as soon as it fired I pulled the tray not wanting it to rattle down into the fan. It stopped, I put it back and it started...

That whistling sound was a penny hitting terminal velocity on the way down.

    Fantastic!

Now all you have to do is conjour up a slightly different version of this story for why you were distracted enough not to remove the tray the last time....

    Where does one start................

I could have researched and recalled countless words of wisdom from "The God of Grease Monkeys"..........I could have retrieved the counsel provided to lesser souls of the mechanical world............

All just to illustrate the elite position held by Blknight.aust........

And only to see this God of Grease, this Professor of All Things Mechanical, this Master Chef of TD5 Cooking, this...........well this (splutter) to see him undone by the charms of the fairer sex, the charms of his neighbors missus... bugger me, off with thy tie, I shall install my new Maxi-drives tomorrow - myself...........all is possible!

Blknight.aust - welcome to the human world!
