Thumbs down My CDL Saga has been solved

Well after what seems to be a lifetime, the problem with the CDL not working has been solved, apparently it's been a culmination of the old AMV CDL and it failing and using the traction control offroad combined.
It seems the CDL was seized and may have been semi engaged and what has happened is the brass washers in the dog clutch have destroyed themselves and inturn travelled around the Transfer case damaging other bits

If we had got the CDL when we first ordered it after the AMV one had failed 6 months ago from Discoparts (i hate Discoparts) then this may not have happened, in the time we were waiting for it, it has been slowly destroying the Transfer case

So today the Transfer case is has been pulled out and sent off to the gearbox place to be overhauled

    Baz.

P.S have i expressed my dislike for Discoparts
    Cheers Baz.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune Baz.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to replace the transfer case from a wreck?
You know you have just opened a minefield of problems

Also could this problem be eliminated by using a mechanical device and not electrical? With a mechanical device at least you know by the position of the stick that you have disengaged the CDL.

Yep i put an 04 DIIa CDL actuator in it, it wouldn't engage the CDL that's how we found the problem after i installed it.

Mate i'd be hunting around for the 04 DIIa CDL actuator now, and replace the electric one as soon as you find one, there's gotta be an 04 DIIa in a wrecker somewhere in OZ.

$850 for a rebuild of course it could of been worse and been $1400 which was how much Mick (treebruiser) paid to have his transfer case fixed in his 100s Cruiser

His was jumping out of low range, the first guy that attempted to fix it stuffed it, costing him more.

I got lucky seeing as my transfercase was modified or replace(not sure what they did, it had no CLD spigot) by all4xfour for Alto newcastle, i took off the AMV kit and let them deal with it, they blamed the AMV kit but still did it anyway thank god, not sure who ended up wearing the cost but i know the relationship between the 2 companies isnt the same thanks to my truck.

    Pedro,

The main problem with the AMV CDL is that water gets into them via the window winder mechanism and if the CDL is not used regularly, the electric window winder motor will sieze.

To prevent this happening, I would pull out the motor and winder mechanism and try to waterproof them with some neutral cure silicone (neutral cure only because it can be used elsewhere on the vevicle) Then the CDL has a chance at some form of longevity. BTW, this is not a guaranteed fix but if I still had the AMV unit, I'd give it a shot, keep my fingers crossed and my eye on the mechanism.

    Cheers,

    Cheers,
Franz, i spoke to the guy that fixed my transfer case, one of the problems is the dog clutch and where it slides back and forth, there's a little welsh plug in the TC where the dog clutch is and the welsh plug in mine had to be taken out and the place where the dog clutch slid into cleaned up, there was alot of corrosion in there.

The DIIa CDL is in and i have it all back together now, it's so easy to use and slides very nice when you lock it in
