Sorry it's not a 48,it is an 80 inch though, it has exposed 7 inch headlightsand "ring"type grille, and parkers in the guards,but no doorhandles, so it would be about 1950, as 51 had doorhandles, still has "D" type t'lights, looks in good nick so would be worth the $

It's hard to say what year it is. From the outside it looks like a 52, as the park lights are on the wings and not the firewall. But he says it has a ring pull constant four wheel drive transfer case which were only used up to 1950!

My '51 has the same grill, parkers in the guards & no door handles??????

If it was early 51 it would be as yours is as the models ran from July to June. also there would have been a shipping delay (lee time)for vehicles to Aust. Garthon motors might be able to shed light on that for you.

Going by the info that I have yours is as follows:

The 1951 models brought two major changes to the original 80-inch Land Rover The first aws a change to selectable four wheel drive and the deletion of the original Freewheel.(records suggest that some of the final 1950 models may also have had this new transmission) The second was a visual change, with the fitting of larger headlamps and a new grille with circular cut-outs which fitted around them. Nevertheless, Bronze Green was still the only standard colour.

The more complex chassis numbering system had become necessary because of the large number of Land Rovers now being built and the variety of different specifications.

Power: 50bhp @ 4000 rpm.
Torque: 80lbft @ 2000 rpm.

Your vehicle looks like it was the third last built in 1951 model year. 1666-2317. but being CKD, it was assembled in Australia
