Well scrap iron are well known in the Uk for selling inferor products ripped of from main manufactors who used to supply them. Take equipe and the like for example. Along with coping other companys ideals and then selling cheaper and sh*t qulity products as the same .

I wonder if they're as overpriced with the copies as they are with the genuine stuff? Never used them in the UK, and this does nothing to change my mind. Anyone that knows the UK, knows that a 4x4 reseller with large premises in an expensive bit of North London is never going to be a cheap or good value option....

Why does everyone get so 'righteous' when this happens?

As long as they don't sell them "these are staun deflators" then theres nothing wrong with what they're doing.

Dont forget there is 3 sides to every story.... 1 party, the other party, the truth...

    But seriously....

There are over 3 manufacturers of "Equipe" type bars in UK that I know off (commercial manufacturers)...

Dont delude yourself.... Businesses are in "business" to MAKE MONEY....
This is what businesses try to do.... MAKE MONEY.....
They do it by offering products or making things or supplying services.....
    Which they charge you for!

If they make a little on each item/service they need to sell more to make a decent profit..
If they make a lot on each item/service they need to sell less to make the same profit...

It wasnt long ago on this list that people were proud to say the Aldi had a cheap chinese winch that looked like a good option....

Well, fancy that.... Purchasing a Chinese knock-off of an American product.
One, which the original developer I'm sure wishes didnt exist.....

Is the product equal to the USA product? Probably not...
Is it suitable for purpose? In most cases, Probably yes....

My neighbour purchased a few sets of "Chinese Ebay Deflators" a while back to have a look at them....

Quality - 95% of the Aus made ones...
Accuracy - Tested ok on 3 vehicles at different pressure settings...
Look - Like Staun but actually BETTER finished than the deflators Staun used to make and sell for over $90.00 a set (when i got my first set)

And heres the kicker....Price $15.00 per set of 4....

    Another example.....

    TD5 Chipping.....
Australia had ONE guy doing it... He supplied all of Australia.....
Now theres at least 5 that in know of....
We all supply a different program to achieve similar results......

Whose is better? Whose is Cheaper? Does it make it inferior?

Bruces locally made Intercoolers used to be $2200.00
I manufactured a run of intercoolers in Adelaide (as a group buy - NOT a business) and dropped the price by HALF...
Quality was at least the same....
Result - We moved over 16 units onto the market in 2 weeks...
As opposed to the avg of 2-3 per year for the $2200.00 units...

And now they sell theirs for $1400.00 fitted.....

Back to the comment at hand.....

I have yet to see a Scorpion Product that is not finished off properly, neatly etc...
Yes, their original runs have some teething issues.. Just like other maufacturing companies...(ARBs bars were rattling to pieces in the early days)
And they source products to cut out the pricier suppliers....
    This is business....

"Sir, I have this ARB winch bar for $1250.00... Or I can offer you this identical looking/performing one for $750.00...."

Which would you choose if you saw them side by side and they were identical?

The key part of Stauns notifications is: Scorpion Racing are offering a Chinese copy as an OPTION.....

What I'm getting at is it's options, and ongoing development/ duplication/ modification of original concepts etc... that forces further development and advancement....

It also allows competition.... Resulting in better deals for us, the consumer...

    Who here uses....Vodafone? Optus?
    Instead of the local player!.....

Well, there you go, point made....
Is Optus/Vodafones coverage as good? No...
Is there Range of services as good? No...
Do they supply the infrastructure Australia wide for your phone lines? No...

Well that pretty much says it all

To put it another way "caveat emptor" - buyer beware

I'm sure Henry Ford cracked a wobbly when every one started to use his idea of the production line to mass produce everything. We have patents to protect goods they have a (usually) 25 year life span then anyone can make them. Or something needs to be made a (cant remember) % different from the original so it doesnt infringe on the patent or copyright.

And it is a Capitalist world, now like it or lump it, so copies will spring up everywhere that there is a market to produce something.

    Cheers Blythe

I'm pretty sure that respecting patents isn't high up in the list of things Chinese manufacturing companies care about....

I checked - patent isn't in their dictionary.

No making cheap pirate copies is how they kick started their economy, but it is still us the end user who desides to buy it or not, at a cheaper price or go for the original.

The other thing is I'm supprised that if it is a pirate copy that the gov import crowd has let it through.
