It's been a real @#$%8 of a week for me

I received the phone call from a close mate earlier this week that his 13 year old son had hung himself after school. His mother found him hanging from the pergola outside the kitchen window when she got home. After my the initial shock and sorrow, I started to become angry. Questions of why. I was at the hospital 13 years ago at this kids birth. My 11 and 13 year old sons play with him regulary, we have family Christmas parties, birthdays.
Then the sadness and shock reset back in. It's been a real #$$% of a week. It brought back memories of the 2 young girls that suicided a couple of months ago, in the next suburd. My mate's son is the next suburb after that. I wondered if there is a local epidemic. I started worrying a lot more over my sons.
The funeral was yesterday. My mate and his wife are still in extreme shock, and even with their loss, the mother still asked if my Boys were alright. The boy wasn't coping too well at school and was also apparently subjected to quite a bit of bullying. The school announced to the pupils that my mates' son had died from accidental electricution. They couldn't even tell the truth. My son went through hell in his primary school years.
I reflected that if this was the cause, It could have happened to me.
I don't know why I'm airing this here, probably just that I am still in shock and can't believe it happen, in fact I kind of refuse to believe it. And maybe I am advising all you parents to look at any signs in your children, because what seemed a happy go lucky kid ended his life without any indications. You just don't know what goes through their minds.

As you said, you never know what's going through their minds.

They can be as happy as larry around you yet in reality they are feeling depressed, rejected, lonely and afraid.

I'm sorry to hear of your friends and your sons loss My condolences mate.

Christ! Sorry to hear this. What can one say? 13 ffs!

Maybe the School felt as guilty as hell knowing the bullying went on & did bugger all about it. Imho, their actions or lack of, need investigating as there could quite easily be a next time soon.

Sounds like they ducked for cover over their lack of supervision & didn't want it made public?

Hiline, as you know the hills community is a close one, it touches every one. There were a lot of unknown faces at the funeral yesterday I presume a lot were kids from the school and their parents. There was a moment of private humour when the Catholic Father said that my mate's son ( a Non Catholic) was a frequently chapel goer. Yep, that was a little humour, as on his mums ' fridge was a detention note that said he mucked around to much during Chapel mass.
They had a video link to the hall as the chapel was full. Police stopped traffic for the courtage to leave. There will be an inquest I've been told.
    Cheers Mars.

I cant imagine having to deal with such a loss.

school bullying can be unbelievably sinister - destroying what should be one of the best times to live.

Mars my boy is also in yr7

he was very upset by the whole ordeal ........
poor little buggers face when he got home from school was dreadful
he gave me the letter from school to notify us of what happened
and my heart and jaw dropped as well

its just so hard to understand why or how a kid would do this kind of thing

its even worse thinking of what kind of pressure this poor kid was under to make that choice

I understand your mixed emotions, a few years ago i found my brothers girlfriend hanging in a tree in my parents backyard and luckily they were away at the time as it was pure hell trying to revive this girl that was already dead but had to try anyway. After the intial panic/shock i was soon feeling angry that she had done this to our family, anger soon turned to sorrow forher family and friends. Even now 6-7 years later i still have mixed feelings over the event. I cant possibly imagine how the parents of the boy feel and hope to never go thru it again. I'm just glad that my mum/wife didnt find her instead of my brother and i. A truly sad loss of such a young life.
