That's interesting.
I'm currently driving a 2006 GU 4.8 petrol Semi-auto, compared to the Discovery is a whole different world of comfort.
scared to take it offroad tho....looks to good at the moment.

Hi all
Some of you are aware that Sam D and I went to the wattgans yesterday so I’m doing a personal comparesent between my last 4wd 98 GU Series 1 against my current 4wd 99 Discovery Series 2 both petrol, GU obviously being 4.5 6 cylinder and rover V8 4.0 litre the GU being manual the rover being Automatic
I found that the rover V8 and gearing was way superior to that of the Patrol however the clearance of the diff center was my D2 biggest let down however this can be fixed, I am running 50% tread on standard road michellens so what more could one expect, on the same token the GU always got caught up in the middle part of chassis
The goodies such as the ACE, Hill Decent and traction control all played a important part of the off road experience however I didn’t really tackle hard obstacles due to the D2 being so standard well I did one which left me stranded on the diff centers after falling into a rutt which left Sam to break out his virgin recovery gear
I deflated one wheel of the rim nearly ripped of the front bumper and placed a million scratches on the British racing green paint job
Some one on the forum suggest I get out there and have a feel for what I need as far as mods
In conclusion I think a lift of greater then 2 inch is needed and wheels of at least 33 inch would be desirable
That's interesting.

easy solution... Mog portals under the disco.
or slightly cheaper alternative... GU diffs under it
FOX 2008 RRS - Artemis 1989 Perentie FFR - Phoenix S2a 88" with more - Beetlejuice 1956 S1 86" - GCLRO #001 - REMLR #176
EVL '96 Defender 110 - Emerald '63 2a Ambulance 112-221 - Christine '93 Rangy - Van '98 Rangy - Rachael '76 S3 GS - Special '70 S2a GS - Miss B '86 Rangy - RAAF Tactical 200184 & 200168
Depends on whats done to it and if Ive got air in my tyres.....
My Disco handles heaps better than my mate GU and another mates GQ and my old 80 series on both dirt and the road but I suppose with road tyres and no lift then it probably could keep up lol lol lol.
It would lose me in the straights though, in that it would leave me well behind while I peak out at 135kmh.
Pootrols are just 4wd school busses that are kinda capable off road but the score so far for me is Pootrols 3, Landcruisers 2 landrovers 2, my own once with my winch.
My mates pootrol GQ has snatched me once when I ran out of diff clearance before I had the bigger tyres.
And Mine isnt highly modified just a susp lift and tyres which are AT's.
I do stress about muddy hills though...
