A Tdi auto should go like the clappers, I think your injector pump settings might be a bit conservative. EGT's are expensive, here is a little known secret! I bought an EGT gauge from this crowd, it was very good price at 88.50 AUS$ shipped and its very very easy to install in the 300TDI EGR blanking plate.http://auberins.com/index.php'main_p...products_id=19
Don't forget to get a K type thermocouple with it.
Then download the Thermoguard tuning instructions from this site and rotate the diaphragm cone to the full fuelling position, the starwheel down (CW) 180 degrees and the stop screw 180 degrees.
I've done this to my manual and it drives beautifully, never goes over 600degrees and pulls far better.
(Of course, bear in mind I am young and stupid and have no idea of how the world works:).)
