A Tdi auto should go like the clappers, I think your injector pump settings might be a bit conservative. EGT's are expensive, here is a little known secret! I bought an EGT gauge from this crowd, it was very good price at 88.50 AUS$ shipped and its very very easy to install in the 300TDI EGR blanking plate.http://auberins.com/index.php'main_p...products_id=19
Don't forget to get a K type thermocouple with it.

Then download the Thermoguard tuning instructions from this site and rotate the diaphragm cone to the full fuelling position, the starwheel down (CW) 180 degrees and the stop screw 180 degrees.

I've done this to my manual and it drives beautifully, never goes over 600degrees and pulls far better.

(Of course, bear in mind I am young and stupid and have no idea of how the world works:).)

not all tdi's auto's are the same. The early ones didnt have electronic control. Those that did also had different pump settings with about 20kw more than the manual. However if you have a manual you can easily tweak the pump yourself and get much more than an extra 20kw (dont do this without an EGT thou).

I have found that the aerodynamics of what your towing plays a significant role - almost as much as the weight your towing. But to tow something like a race car and not expect to slow below 100km/hr - your gunna have to spend big bucks - either a cheap truck with high fuel consumption, or an expensive truck with lower consumption.

Its good to hear your ok again.:) You are right re pump, I havent had it Looked at because I dont trust anybody around here to tweek it a little. Im not that Keen on going the whole tweek, but just a Little bit;). Our Disco has done a few km now, (265k) and not real keen on doing damage to the donk, we just cant aford to have it off the road at all for work etc....but I take what your saying ie its safe if a good EGT is used, but thanks for the Link & price anyway :thumbsup:

Maybe if I ever get to Melb or geelong someone may have a play for us, or I guess I could download and print out some great details on the tweek that sombody sent the link to us, then take to a Local Diesel tech and see what he thinks........:wallbash:

By the way, for the record I never said you are stupid far from it in fact, but yes you are young as all of us were at some point, so sometimes some of us "Old Farts" try and guide the younger breed along a bit ie not to make the same mistakes we did, think of it as being an older brother or unkle type deal becauise for alot of us there was no offer for advice or help.........;) please take this as intended :)

As I said I don't expect one to hold 100kmh up long hills with a load on but I do expect it to far outperform the old Patrol. I've been in a few newer turbo diesels (Prados, Hiluxs, Mazda/Ford Couriers, Navaras) and they are so far ahead of the old Patrol its not funny. I expected the Disco to be somewhere in the middle. The one that I drove was about the same acceleration wise as the Patrol which was a big let down. But this was only one vehicle. I have another two to look at as soon as I get time.

Looks like I won't be limiting my choice to just a manual anymore!

The car I will be towing is the RX7. It sits low on the trailer and I expect to be buying a new, lower trailer at some stage also. The current trailer isn't wide enough with my new wheels/tyres.
