Thread: Revenge on cyclists

I'm a Cyclist and i hate moron motorists who think they own the Road.
A cyclist has the same rights as a Car or Motorbike.
We might be slower, but there is no excuse to force us off the road.

Try jumping out of your car at 40km...... it hurts.. as does falling of a bike at 40km when some impatient driver forces you off the road.

This is why i now prefer to ride on rail trails and tracks........

i also ride a bike to work when i can, and as much fun as this game is MOST cyclists do the right thing as do MOST motorists. as in every situation its just a few idiots who act this way.

Used to be a cyclist, gave it up, too dangerous.

I wasn't going to post, 'cos the only thing I could think of to say was that it amazes me how mad the hard core commuter cyclists are. You know those guys, would rather die than admit that a cyclist is more vulnerable and slower than a car.

This afternoon I was driving through Central, and a cyclist came sliding down between the lanes of traffic and pulled in front of me at the lights. He stopped right in the middle of the lane, and stayed behind the stop line. I was hoping that he might just wait for a break in traffic, or advance through the pedestrian strip to get through the intersection without putting the car traffic too much.

Not him.

I know that bikes have equal rights to the road and all that stuff, I've spouted it myself when I was a kid, but this guy took the biscuit.

Light changed, he sat up on his seat again and moseyed through the intersection right in the middle of the lane. You know how a courier bike rider will ride, over to the side, push through the intersection while the light is red, take off like a rocket, all of that stuff that doesn't interrupt pedestrian traffic or car traffic too much. He did none of that.

Stayed in front of me the whole time, didn't stand up, didn't raise a sweat. A couple of hundred metres down the road, I'm still in second gear, he slows and indicates he's changing lanes. He waits for the traffic to stop in the next lane and changes lanes, again without moving any faster. I took off then, but in the mirror I could see that he was still hogging the entire lane.

Mad I tells ya.

Nobody sideswiped him, nobody spat on him, nobody yelled at him. No idea why not.

Riding in gutters isn't on because of all the crap that accumulates there ie. broken glass. It sucks to be caught behind someone slow sometimes but hey thats life. Had one today going into Berwick, 2 lanes, bikes riding tandum, I pulled half way into the next lane leaving about 2 metres between him and myself in the Disco.

He started mving over as soon as I got along side until he was riding on the right hand white line.

I have a broken head light squirter at the moment that shoots sideways so I got him with washer fluid and I must say he wasnt too impressed but stuff him as I was giving him room and he didnt need to take up a full lane but he wanted to make sure he slowed me down to about 3 kmh while he trudged up the hill.

If your on a car and your traveling under the speedlimit and not allowing other traffic to pass, you can be done for impeding traffic flow, $135 and 1 point about 12 years ago when I was nursing my F350 back with 2 blown head gaskets so dont tell me they have the same obligations or is it that the police just dont enforce it.

Not all road bike riders are idiots and I give room to them when I come up to them but I have found that most of them down here in Melb are absolute a$$holes and one day they will come across someone who wont just give them a squirt, they will run them off the road and probably beat the crap out of them.

I know of people who would beat someone senseless for spitting on their car, maybe you bike rider present should mention this sort of thing to the idiot bike riders who think they own the road when they obviously dont.

By the way I dont spit on or abuse cyclists, the squirters is the worst Ive ever done.

Bikes are for Kids and Drunks, you guys have dedicated bike paths that the councils all across the country put in for you, why dont you make good use of them instead of P ing of the car drivers, if you cant get to work without using the roads then do it in a responsible manner and allow traffic to have room and dont spit on my Disco..........

Thats easy Ron. Roll forward a little bit.

I accept that they are there but leaning on my vehicle is not and could be constituted as an accident if on the road. If they ride off without exchanging insurance, liscence and rego details then it is a hit and run.
As for riding between the lanes at lights and pulling in front. Last motorbike who tried that got the shock of his life when I took of faster than him so he couldn't pull in front. And no I didn't come close to him just made him chose the other lane as that car was slower. If they do that then be faster than me and I don't care.

Many yearsago before marriage I lived in a share house in Sydney and one of the residents suffered a badly broken leg in an industrial accident. This required, eventually, rather radical surgery for the time of bone graft and plates, and a long recovery & rehabilitation. As part of his rehab. he was to take up cycling and he used to ride to & from work, Coogee to Zetland and return. After a time, in self defense, he armed himself with a geologists hammer on a lanyard attached to his wrist which was used to belt a window of any car that behaved super badly. The sharp end of the hammer usually shattered a tempered glass window/windscreen.

It's interesting to see two easily identified minority groups having a go at each other. Both 4x4 drivers and cyclists cop plenty of ill informed, self righteous, prejudicial crap from the mainstream. It just goes to show that people in minority interest or lifestyle groups can be just as pig headed or ignorant as anyone else, even though they are so often unfairly abused themselves.

Personally I've been into both Land Rovers and cycling for years now. My bikes generally cost more than the Land Rovers. I've taken plenty of abuse and criticism over both activities and have learned there's no point arguing. So now I just get on with it and don't give a toss what anyone else thinks.
