That is interesting, the ARB bars we had on the fleet 4x4s at a previous work work (nissotas) were as I described. Anyone know if that was an early design and the new (cruiser/patrol) ones are like the D2???

Im yet to have a problem with my aproach angle, I normally get hung up on Diffs or drag the towbar, even with the hitch removed and sometimes I even drag the tank but never has the bull bar impeded me in the slightest.
I dont go places where I need to drive straight up a 10' ledge and if I drop it into a hole, I just run the winch cable out and pull it the rest of the way but a bar is for protection before anything else in my opinion and the opinion of or law makers so maybe an adjustment of driving style may save you some money.
Im not saying your doing something you shouldnt and Im not saying you shouldnt mount a bit of pipe to the front of your Disco for what ever reason you want to do it for e.g. to look tougher or make you think you will get further because of it, thats up to you I just dont think you will find it much of an advantage thats all.
If you were doing comp like the outback chellange etc I would say go for it but for a weekend warior I would say keep it legal before anything else.
Lets not forget what bull bars are intended for, in Australia its Roos and I suppose I don’t drive on rural highways all that much to worry about Roos what else would you need protection from to warrant that much metal other then another car which I cant see how a bull bar would better your chances against that
