By the way ALL cable TV whether satellite, optical cable, or any other permutation is broadcast in SD, as HD would take too much bandwidth.

Many people are surprised by this assertion.
All I can say is do not argue, just contact Foxtel or Optus, as I did.

That is the major reason, I bought a SD TV, as I thought I would have satellite seeing there was a dish on the roof of my new house.
No not possible. It was an analogue dish. For digital it needed a much larger opening to the sky. This needed a 20 metre tree to come down at a cost of $1000Plus. I didn't need cable that much.

Sorry to be pedantic but if its fed by satellite or radio signal its not cable... its wireless by definition of the fact it doesn't use wires!

I think this is why Austar people came and tried to sell me wireless satellite cable TV only once. Then walked away mumbling under their breath

Thanks Dm for the Link. I did read there somewhere that there may be an issue with my booster may need to be detuned a bit for digital tv.

I might try turning the booster off and see what happens

Also thanks to everybody else.....looks like just what I thought that there are only the extra few SD channels, but thats cool I just hate the idea of missing out on something so I had to ask

Try not to turn the amp unit off. The better units have a variable gain on UHF and a seperate gain for the VHF.Try turnig these down ,this way you will still have the gain on any fringe signal and you'll attenuate any signal that is booming in ,if you have trouble with ghosting this is caused by a reflection of signal off an object and can sometimes be fixed by moving the antenna.

The dishes that fox and austar use can pick up digital they only change the LNB. Optus use Hybrid Fibre Coax for their pay stuff even tho they own the sattelites that fox & austar get their signal from selectv use Pas8
