    Jeep Commander, Reliable?

Close to work I pass a new black Jeep Commander, obviously someones pride and joy.

Twice now it has been missing, once for about 2 weeks and another time for around a week, both times its place taken by a courtesy car, Dodges.

    Points to major problems?

Well Richard, you could observe this a number of ways:

1). They have another car, obviously a Land Rover, used only for special occasions.

2). The Jeep has an older sibling and they swap it at the repair shop - ie one goes in, one goes out.

3). Given they have a Jeep (or 2 as I surmise above), they also may have a regular car and you would not notice them driving a Daewooooooo....

4). Please notice I did not use the word 'crap' in all aforementioned points...(Land Rover excepted).....

    Cheers, GQ

I have a new Grand Cherokee which the Commander is built on the same platform. There have been some warranty recalls for the 4x4 systems and the like and also other teething problems you may expext for the first run of a new model.

As for reliablity mine has had many issues but none that would have stopped me getting home and has not broken down. In that sense it is very reliable compared to my old Jeep.

Also the courtesy car is given when factory accessories are installed so that might be it as well??

Well maybe, but it seemed to be away for a long time.......about 7 to 10 days each time.

I agree the first of a model can have some teething problems, happens to any make.

I wonder if the driver is a local Chrysler salesman who has the use of different cars. I see a similar thing near me but with Mazdas.

A mate of mine works for subaru, and he is regularly in a different car for a week, trying to pin point a rattle or squeek or an intermittent fault.

He rarely drives his own car (a hilux 308/turbo700) that at the moment is in bits anyway as he always has access to either one from work or his folks have a couple of Jeeps he can use.

May be that the person driving it goes away for a week to 10 days at a time for work and it's at the airport and it just happens that the next car behind him every day is a Dodge.
