As much as I loath the use of 'truck' for anything that is not a genuine commercial vehicle [sucking breath thru teeth] for ADRs a disco is complied as a truck and that's why it don't need cats.

John, though that is the def from Wik,, I am just stirring.

My dad hated any Yanky terms also. Its just that for so many people its an affectionate term for a 4WD.

That doesn't mean anything - my County is an omnibus on the compliance plate!

If you go back in history, a significant part of Landrover history in the UK was the decision that it was not (necessarily) a commercial vehicle, and hence could travel over 30mph!

But the use of "truck" to refer to a recreational vehicle rather than a commercial vehicle is the sign of someone aping American English, although not as bad as SUV!

Nah, I call the 130 a truck because its turning circle is comparable to that of a train.

    Yeah He might be talking...

Definitions of truck on the Web:

The complete assembly of parts, including wheels, axles, bearings, side frames, bolster, brake rigging, springs and all associated connecting components, the function of which is to provide support, mobility and guidance to a railroad car.

People who bag other things without proper reason are simply jealous!

If they can't find enough good things to say about their own vehicles, they put down others to compensate.

To me a truck is a goods carrying vehicle and has at least one axle with dual wheels and needs a heavy vehicle licence to drive.

I've always thought of trucks (automotive ones that is) as being those vehicles that carry things other than people. Having said that, I call my Series 2 109 a ute because it doesn't have a flat deck or carry a canopy. Neither English or US

Anyway, how many japbota drivers have strangers come up to them in the street and say "wow, that is so cool" (referring to the Series 2 of course), or have kids tug at their mum's sleeve and pointing, or have kid's dad's saying "Oh that's a Land Rover, they're neat".
